***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Great game. Just spent an hour playing with 0 lag on a dedicated server. Playing this on expert means plays must work together or its game over in 3 seconds. I think playing as a zombie might be even more fun.

The servers are starting to cope, just played a lagless match on Expert, brilliant game. However, no one used a mic, this is absolutely key for me. I had a pretty laggy match before, but everyone used their mic and the experience was astounding.

Bit of a minor gripe this, and I was worried from screenshots that this would be the case, but I think it's kinda lame that the flashlights from peoples guns look nothing like they should - just looks like a haze coming out of the front of their gun. I want to see proper lights with shadows being cast properly, so if a teammate is behind with the flashlight pointed at your your shadow ends up on the walls in front, etc. :(

Downloading demo from Steam @ 70kbps...

What was even the point in paying the extortionate £35.00 for this game over Steam? Could 'download' it faster with a hamster-powered ISDN line.

Lol yeah the Steam has really disappointed me with this Left 4 Dead launch what with the ridiculous prices, laggy servers and poor download speed as above. I'll be definately going the brick store route , Steam can f off until their prices improve.

The automatch feature is utter fail.

And it doesn't seem to be able to connect properly. I keep getting kicked.

Just ridiculous exchange-rates and a lack of willingness to price their products regionally... very bad pricing strategy but they know we don't have many alternatives as far as digital-delivery platforms. Market leader arrogance in my opinion; their games may be ****-hot but their concept certainly has some shortcomings.

"10% Off!" the Steam Store deal brags... so what, the game would cost £40.00 if it wasn't on this highly-generous and competitively-priced deal? Haha, as if anyone is going to pay double-retail price for an over-hyped glorified Co-op mod.

Oh and Automatch can fork off, to be frank. All the new games like FarCry 2 and now L4D have this crappy console-lobby format. Developer laziness, makes the high price an even bigger blow to take when you consider half of the interface and game-design has been pitched at a 14 year old playing on a console paid for by daddy.

Before I order, anyone answer me this please.

Never bought a retail steam game before will adding the cdkey allow me to download it in full just like all the Non Retail downoad only I bought, or will I need to keep the disks handy every time I install it.

i think you can .... i am not paying steams prices , just placed a pre order with well known big river..... i will just wait till the demo is released t everyone , and wait till the package is delivered , i have waited months for this so a few weeks wont hurt!

I know how you feel. It's been downloading for 5 hours and I'm only 80% done. What a joke :(

Unfortunately the speed problems are quite common when a popular game is released. You have to get in there either early or very late :/

I just played a proper online game right through for the first time. Only on normal sadly, but still IMMENSE. Such a cool game :)

Managed one game fully on Advanced, amazing game. Best bit is when a boomer spews on another person and you're standing there as hoardes of zombies rush in :D awesome with the auto-shotty and a large group :D
