Lian-Li Tyr PC-X500 and PC-X2000... how are they for noise?

Hey,

I have an Antec P180 at the moment, and I'm thinking of getting the Tyr X500 (mainly because it has rubber HDD grommets which its bigger brother does not!). However, my P180 is awesome at dampening both vibration and airflow noise, and I'm afraid the Tyr may not be able to match it.

Could anyone with this case please comment on how "quiet-friendly" it is? Sadly SPCR have not yet reviewed it :(

Also how are they in general? Any foibles over cable routing, quality, usability etc?

Cheers,

Suman

The X-500 got slated in this months CustomPC for very poor thermal performance. The X-2000 was much better.

Think they said it was pretty quiet. It was this months CustomPC so you might still be able to get a copy...

Wanting unusual features?

A71 and V1110/2110 are closer to P180's indirect noise escape path design.
One reason for quietness of P180 is mass of sidepanel's so naturally these need some damping mat to sides for better ability "to keep noise inside".

They tested them with stock fans. The X-500 and X-2000 come fully loaded with fans so no need to add more like with my TJ09
I just wouldn't keep Lian Li's stock fans as really quiet, ball bearing takes away that chance.
Also ones with those cases are 1500rpm models so built in fan controller can't adjust them to low speed.

The X500 definitely comes with foam-lined side panels, so that should help? And the built-in fan controller should work on any fans, as it is just changing the voltage afaik...

What reasonably priced 120mm fans would you recommend (<1000rpm)?

Cheers,

Suman

That "Akasa Paxmate" is entirely too light and thin to either damp vibrations or absorpt soundwaves.
And for being able to effectively attach heavier damping mats like BeQuiet Noise Absorber (bought it two times quite affordably from Germany), Nexus Damptek (rather pricy) or Noiseblocker Evolution (harder to find) you would have to first shred away that junk.

From fans Nexus is "classic" but slightly too fast at full speed for real quietness. GlobalWin NCB (NCB fans sold possibly under other brands) and Scythe S-Flex are both well scaling fans.
Currently Scythe Slip Streams (Kaze Jyuni) are best.

1200rpm/M model seems like best scaling of them but full speed is too fast for quiet operation. (bought them for "half free" with BeQuiet mat for A71)

I have the pc-x500 sitting in my living room for my I7 build..it sure is a beautiful case..cant wait to test it out..

i thought Custom Pcs review was a little harsh..ive read some fantastic reviews all over the internet..the case is cold to touch out of the box as its made of ALU
