Watching "Donkey Punch" at the moment - pretty bad movie worthy of a 2/5 so far methinks - but was apalled at the beginning by the song during the title sequence. It was a dance remix of José Gonzales' "Heartbeats".

Now, I think his version is a wonderful, emotive piece of music and songwriting, but the dance remix made me ******* cringe. I've seen it too many times, for example I've also heard a terrible dance cover of Guns 'N' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine" which almost caused physical pain it was that bad.

For the vocals they always seem to sign on some random bint who just happens to be able to carry a tune, but the singing sounds so lifeless and terrible it might as well be computer generated.

Does anyone agree with these terrible dance covers, or even like them?

Was it this remix? If so you are a fool, its a sweet cover/mix. As much as I love the original aswell, this cover is smashing.

I generally love decent covers/mixes of good songs, whats wrong with having a song you love and making it danceable? The Pendulum remix of Master Of Puppets for instance, apart from the ott vocals perhaps, its used a really catchy riff and pumped it up a notch.

Some of my favourite songs are remixes/dance covers. I do agree the sweet child of mine over i think your thinking of, is a bit ott, DJ Milano iirc.

The Blackest Album Vol. 1-4, A set of Industrial covers of Metallica tracks by artists like Apoptygma Berzerk, Funker Vogt and Razed In Black

That cover is the one. Spent a little while searching YouTube but couldn't find it myselt - thanks. :)

I think it absolutely destroys what is really a very good piece of songwriting. It's dire. That's not to say I don't appreciate dance/trance music. Infected Mushroom's "Heavyweight" and "Vicious Delicious" are among my favourite pieces of music, but jesus that cover is an absolute piece of hell itself.

Linus Loves - Stand Back is a pretty good cover of Stevie Nicks' original.

Although there are some absolutely atrocious covers that have been done in the name of dance, Cascada springs inevitably and inescapably to mind as one of the most recent to massacre a classic or two (Patti Smith - Because The Night).

Killers - Mr Brightside (Thin White Duke Remix)

Pure Brilliance

Is that the remix that lasts about 7 or 8 minutes? I think it might have been on the limited edition of the album? If so then thats such a great song!

can think of loads of dance remixes that i prefer to the original tracks but its all a matter of taste. i prefer that sort of sound

for a start i could take pretty much most of trentemoller, soulwaxs or unkle/lavelles remixes. plenty of others too but those 3 never really seem to do a bad one
eg.

thanks to the internet though there a lot of rubbish out there too. especially of legendary bands thats tracks should never really be touched

That random bint is the original artist ;)

jose gonzales one is the cover of a more dancier track
Hehehe. Would have been funny if the OP was in fact talking about the original!

The remix is actually pretty good - hadn't heard that before. One to add to the collection I think :)
