Hi,

As the title says really, I currently have a Xfi and whilst im happy with the sound quality, im sick and tired of the terrible drivers and buggy performance. I run Vista 64bit with 4gig of Ram, ever since installing the 4gig im getting no end of sound glitches, aprantly its a known issue with my mobo (asrock 939 dual sata) 4gig orf ram, Vista 64bit and the Xfi.

I dont game at all, all I use my PC for is work, but I like to play music while i work, and appriciate a little more audio quality then the rubbish onboard audio. so could someone point me in the right direction of a stable quality sounding card. I only have a 2.1 system so it need not be 5.1 or more.

Thanks in advance

Emu 0404 = WIN

Have to checkup about vista drivers though, I only use XP. Also how to you connect your soeakers up, the em-u doesn't have 3.5mm jacks.

Or have a look at the M-audio cards, supposed to be quite good. But I love my emu, little baby emu :D

Im using Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers hooked up via normal stereo headphone jack.

I did a quick search for that card you mentioned and I could only find 1 new one on the bay for over £80 including P&P, I was hoping for something under the £50 mark if possible.

I've got this in my PC, the xonar drivers seem to work better with vista 64bit than x-fi, very stable card and produces great sound quality for the price. I use Dolby 5.1 with my 2.1 system and it sounds great, also dolby headphone on the xonar is a brilliant feature.

I did look at that card, but I thought I could buy a better qualty stereo card rather then that 7.1 card. Just seems a bit of a waste on feature i will never use.

Wow £80, I paid about £65 for mine 2/3 years ago, times have changed.

Check out the m-audio cards then might be a bit cheaper.

any particular M-Audio card you can reccomend? they seem to do quite a few, some being very expensive and aimed at pro's by the looks of it.

I never use 7.1 either, my 5.1 speakers get some use but I mainly use my trusty stereo headphones when using the PC. (except when watching tv/movies which are put on my TV screen and speakers)

Anyway, great sound card can't really go wrong. Drivers are fine too no crashes whatsoever or compatibility issues for me. (Vista x64)

for around £50-60 the Xonar DX fits the bill, you won't do better for music unless you go with an external DAC.
