Getting harder to decide between console and pc these days

With Left 4 Dead and other shooters coming out, I am finding it harder and harder to choose which platform.

Sure they will look better on pc, but just seems like it will be easier to join up with people on the 360. Plus I am likely to get a 2nd 360, so I will be able to easily move between rooms, depending on availability of TV.

Once upon a time the choice for FPS games would be easy, favouring the pc, but I am quite comfortable playing them using a pad now - and to be honest love to get away from a mouse and keyboard with using them all day.

It is still easier to use mouse and keyboard though as reactions are far quicker.

Am I the only one leaning more towards console for FPS, despite being a little harder with controller?

Yes ... yes you are.

No, he's not.

I was a hard-core PC gamer (being in a successful clan at one point) and although I had always had a console, I always preferred playing an FPS on a PC due to the more accurate mouse aiming.

The past couple of years I've moved to a laptop for my PC, and gaming exclusively on my 360. For the reasons you've mentioned it's excellent, and the ability to sit on a comfy sofa in front of a 50" screen (or even a 100" projector) is amazing.

You're talking to the converted here.

I've been playing fps with a mouse and keyboard since Quake and once argued I'd never, ever, ever get used a controller.

I now haven't played one with anything other than a controller for nearly 3 years and think it's the most natural thing in the world.

Nope i'm the same, i've recently gone from full on PC gaming to primarily console play. I too am struggling to decide on which platform to buy some of the upcoming games for, such as COD5 and L4D.

The whole Live thing does make it much easier to join up with people for games, but I guess i will leave it to my mates to decide about L4d. I think most of them are getting it for PC, which isn't bad but my gut was telling me to go with Xbox version.

Also though, when i'm on my PC i'm sitting like the hunch back of Notre Dame, i know i9t really can';t be good for me -at least with consoles you are more naturally able to lean back - with pc i always feel the need to move my head pretty close to the screen when gaming - my back wont be against the chair .

Yes I'm comfortable playing FPS with a pad, but I much prefer PC and it's easily the choice for FPS games.

I would hate playing TF2 on a controller.

Still I have both (consoles and PC) and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have no qualms playing most FPS with pads (in fact I play Crysis with a pad sometimes) but I will always go for PC releases instead.

I really can't see games like Left 4 Dead working on consoles, what with the zombies coming around left right and center. Judging from the PC demo, there's absolutely no way you're gonna be able to defend yourself on the console versions if it takes a couple of seconds to do a 180 degree turn. You could turn the sensitivity up, but what's the point if your accuracy goes out the window?

Hmm, just ordered Left 4 Dead for PC. It was price that swung this one for me.

Though I will try the demo on both (if its out on both before realease) and see how I feel about it then.

CoD:WaW, however, will more than likely get for 360.

I cant aim for toffee in an FPS with a pad, PC is a definite must. For 3rd person games/racing I prefer the 360. But FPS and games like C&C3 theres no choice for me!

There's no denying that the mouse + keyboard is the best form of controller for accuracy and response time in FPS'. When i used to play TFC competitively that for me meant it was the best form of control, however now that i no longer take my games quite so utterly seriously i've come around to the fact that comfort > accuracy.

These days i prefer to be slouched out on a sofa in comfort for all games EXCEPT RTS', those will stay firmly on my PC.

FPS work on Consoles they have done since the days of Goldeneye, M+K is good but its not better than a pad, everyone is on the same playing field on a console and there is some brilliant pad players so its not down to its crap its down to you being crap.

Yes it is.

The playing field is more or less just fine on the PC, I've never been killed by someone and thought "OMGOMG that's his £60000 mouse doing that!!!" :o

agree with ffallic - but maybe just because consoles seem to be getting a lot more attention and publicity nowadays (ads and billboards etc)

has there been any big games out for the PC? Maybe i just have console-tunnel vision or smt but absolutely tons of big games coming out for consoles but for PC folks freak over.....World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King and thats about it.

Will always be easier to aim in an FPS using mouse and keyboard imo but if its a 3rd person shooter aiming isnt so bad on console..weirdly enuff.

Well I am stuck between my 360 & my PC, No way will I play FPS on my 360 as I sux so bad it hurts every time I die, On PC I pawn, On 360 I sux & I don't like dying it's as simple as that. My 360 is used for titles like Forza2/GRID & Fifa08/TW08. I will eventually catch up & move over to console FPS but only when I have lost the need to be competitive.
You can't beat the 360 for comfortable social gaming but you can't beat PC for competitive FPS. My PC is far more than a gaming machine though so I feel it's a little unfair to compare it with a console.
