The Times in my bag ran with the same story as well. I've never quite understood why some countries try to hide things like this. With how much it's surpressed I guess we'll never know whether the N Koreans are affected by this.

The shadow on his leg is spot on - look at the soldiers leg on the far right, also pretty much straight and not diagonal like the other two.
The sun is obviously pretty low in the sky, it's just exagerratting the horizontal lengths and thus the patterns in the more crumpled trousers, giving the impression that they should be diagonal.
