Corruption on 4850 Iceq 4?

The Drivers switch the Cards clocks and voltages between various types of load/applications

Uninstall everything ATI and clean the registry and give 8.10 Cats a try

Ran Furmark all night, it doesn't seem to record maximum temperatures or anything but after 30,000 seconds it was at 67 degrees. No corruption or anything was visible - just a nice furry ring.

I tried ATI Tool but could not get it to run, also tried ATI Tray Tool and that could not pick up any corruption - but only ran it for 10 minutes or so.

Will try the 8.10s tonight. I usually run the ATI removal tool - will that clear out the registry?

Any further advice?

just do a normal uninstall via windows uninstall program , forget driver cleaner pro and Driver Sweeper, u shouldn't need to use that anyway really. windows uninstall program should remove everything it needs. with driver cleaner pro and Driver Sweeper it sometimes removes more than it should.

Not seen any corruption at all since Sunday, very very odd!

The corruption only really seemed to affect the PC when it was a cold boot and sorted itself out after 10 - 15 mins. I cannot think of anything that could have caused it.

If anyone has an explanation I would be glad to hear it.

Will have to see if it ever hapens again.

An update on the situation:-

I was on holiday for a week and came back to severe corruption, on post, boot, windows and in games. Ran it for a while and it got worse. Deceided enough was enough and RAM'ed the card.

Just heard back from Overclockers that after four hours of testing they can find no corruption.

They are returning the card and suggest I update the motherboard drivers and change the PCIE power cable.

I will try this but any other suggestions would be useful. The machine has been working flawlessly this wek with my old 1900XT in.

I am a bit annoyed to say the least!

Well I updated my bios, downgraded the driver to 8.8 and got my card back.

Corruption was nowhere to be seen on first install then ran furmark and it died.

Rebooted with corruption everywhere!

I have now left the PC on for a few hours and rerun furmark with no corruption.

Seems like when it first happened a few weeks ago - corruption when cold booting but after the machine has warmed up corruption goes.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would appreciate it.

Card seems to be behaving itself at the moment but will be trying Fallout 3 soon - wish me luck!

Can you try it in a spare machine?

On the RMA sheet it has done 400 loops of Crysis benchmark and four hours of furmark with no problems at all.

Last night after my post on here I played Fallout 3 on Ultra settings for four hours with no corruption at all.

This morning I come to boot up and corruption everywhere, infact it took me 20 minutes with three VPU recovers just to get into windows. Now it seems fine.

It is without doubt only as it is warming up, after 20 minutes of buggering about I reckon it is now fully operational - that just doesn't make any sense does it?

could it be a fault with the slot that your card is in?

Any idea how I can test that? It is a 939 board but as mentioned in the first post the card worked perfectly for the first month.

No end of bloody problems with the ATi 4XXX series of cards is there? Very annoying.

No more the usual when everyone is buying them. There's a lot of people with dieing 260/280's on this forum as well and they are the less popular card at the moment it seems.

I'll tell You exactly what the problem is ! Somewhere You have a bad connection and as everything heats up and expands it sorts itself out.

Now I would have said it's a memory chip on the card but You maybe did not convey that well to OC so they tested for More normal faults ?

You have only 1 option and that is to run the Card in another PC and see if the problem occurs over the course of a week or so, You will then know if it's Your board/slot or the 4850

This is what I have been thinking, but surely it would manifest itself on the Overclockers machine too?

Saying that surely it would manifest itself on my 1900XT if it wasn't the card. However, if the 1900 is slightly thinner in a certain place then this would work. Any ideas for this type of corruption, could it be power?

Also why did it wait a month before buggering me about...:(

Heat Cycles break things..
Intermittent problems are a nightmare,You had a perfect opportunity to fix it the other day when it would not run properly, If it was My problem I would have gently pressed around all the components to find the poor connection, we used to use a freezer spray..I doubt You can buy it anymore ! handy for this sort of problem.

I symperthize with Your dilemma but I told You the only way to narrow it down
