New gaming rig ~£800 - what would you change?

Some people don't upgrade for 5 years. Also I've already said just get Vista HP, unlike DX10 DX11 will be released on vista as well as w7. It has the same basic programming as DX10 so should be adopted early on from game developers.
As i said it depends when you next plan to upgrade. but the q6600 is a great value chip.

Dx 11 will be on vista, and there is no point buying expensive cards because some of the arcitector on the cards will not be supported by dx11, pretty crappy on microsofts part.
You'll still be able to use dx11 but as i said some parts of the graphics cards will not work, your better of waiting till ati bring out there dx11 cards feb 2009. all thos people spending 200 + bucks for graphics cards are about to recieve a rude awakening once dx11 is out. thats Why iam sick of MS and hope linux kicks off big time.
and ive just had a look dx12 is in the pipe line for 2010 and no supported for vista but this is just a rumour, iam sick of ms and glad the chinese have manage to hack vista and hope they do the same for windows7.

That has always been the case. Most of dx11 will be usable though, so the gfx cards are not a waste of money. Especially the multi core portion and with it being less than a year away. It's a huge consideration when buying, unless you will upgrade before then.
