Should i fully remove the old nvidia drivers, and if so, how?
before or after i install the new card?
What are the best ati drivers to run atm? (links appreciated)
thanks for any help

dont switch,i switched from a 8800gt to a 4850,there is no difference at all.and you loose ditgital vibrance.so colors dont look as good,i rma mine for a 9800gtx+ now im happy again.

Yet some people have the gall to claim that the standards in the education system are still as good as they have always been. :(

OP: A full uninstall and then a sweep with a driver removal tool is usually recommended when switching to a gfx card from another GPU supplier.

Don't expect wonders with that upgrade. Only difference you may find is that you can select 8xAA oppose to 4xAA that your 8800GT could handle.

And in some games you need 8x AA on the 4000 series to get the same quality as 4x FSAA on nVidia imo... Unless you play at 1920x res (which the 4850 copes with admirably - although the 8800GT still puts out playable fps) this is more of a sidegrade than an upgrade imo.

I cant see that as a great upgrade. I went from an 8800gts 320 to 4870, the difference in those is ok but I think you will be disapointed with yours. Go for the 4870 instead it's worth it.

Reading through this link says others wise & is a link that you posted your self in a much older thread to back up the very claims you are saying now & if fact the 4000 series has the edge.

What link?

As for FSAA - I find 4x FSAA on nvidia enough that I never perceive jagged edges while playing, with 0x or 2x I do. While play testing a 4870 at 4x I found I was noticing them on some edges while playing and until I put it upto 8x it didn't go away. On closer examination I found many instances on the ATI of edges looking like they had 2x AA applied.

As for performance I've never said the 8800GT was as fast or faster than a 4850 - with 180 drivers the gap closes a bit but the 4850 is still the faster card... but the margin is so small that I don't consider it worth the money to change from one to the other.

remove drivers from windows via add remove programs. then remove remnants with driver cleaner (safe mode), then install ATI drivers.

4850 is faster than the 9800GTX+ though in many instances.
you must have been doing something wrong.

i found the opposite when i switched from my 8800gts to the 4850. the 4850 looks cleaner and crisper than the nvidia card ever did.

ATi cards have Digital Vibrance as well, they just call it Saturation, its found by selecting Avivo Color under the Digital Panel. ;)

Puts the ATI AA ahead of NV

No-one can spell "lose" these days is seems.

I'm sure they don't teach plurals either, everything is singular.

"Me want chip and pea"!!!
