Vehicles over 1525kg prohibited

:D, the drive axle alone would be over the limit!

I think any would exceed it, by quite some margin! - The above is the axle weights for my Scania R420....

Whats your 0-60?

You should install a lazy boy recliner and use broom sticks to drive with a tv to see the road.

Do your trucks have beds? I've always wanted to see the ones that people live in, do they have toilets?

0-60? ages! - Its limited to 56MPH unless you find a nice steep hill.....

No toilets, but certainly have bunks.

I wrote a couple of "reviews" of both Scania & DAF HGV's a while ago, the admins seem to have deleted them though!

So, heres a few random pictures....

Slightly confused by this. Looked at my V5 and the 'Revenue weight' of my car is 1870kg. Seems pretty high considering it is only a Merc CLK230K. Much smaller than some of the cars quotes here with a lower weight.

Do you use the same truck everyday? Also are you lot allowed to decorate them how you please?

edit: DOES THAT SAY 2.5 MPG

Not officially allowed to decorate them, that said, I have a Gorilla sitting in my windscreen (a toy one! :D)

Yes, that does say 2.5MPG! ,I probably got that figure in stop start traffic running @ full weight (44t gross) - you can sometimes get it to read less than 1MPG !

Is it ever possible to get double-figures MPG on those?

Yes, but, not by much....

This is quite common when you stay off motorways.... 6.9MPG! - The above photo's are of a DAF XF's fuel computer read out, a Scania, Volvo or whatever would return similar at the same running weight.

Murdered many prostitutes lately R420LA6X2/4MNA?

Not this week mate, been too busy holding up car drivers - doing 1 MPH faster than the truck I'm overtaking.... ;)

how much does it cost to fill up?

Depends on the size of the fuel tank, my old Scania when I worked for DHL had 1000 litre tanks (do the maths!) the DAF's that James Irlam run have on average 700litre tanks, the Scania R420's have 2 300litre tanks. :)

Yep, defo overweight in that area then, lol.

I've had the pleasure of a Couple of XF105.480's and a couple of military spec CF85.430's (which bar the extra axle and cheaper cab are actually the same underneath as the XF's) lately, The CF's are only plated to 28T mgcw, but the chassis plates say 50T max design weight!

These have only had 400l tanks on them, £440ish to fill up, and an average of 9.5mpg.

Thats interesting, I'll have to look at the DAF's plate - The Scania that I currently drive which is plated @ 44t mgcw has a design weight of a mere 46t!

An update!

I forgot all about this until today when I came back for lunch and found this email...

From: <snip>
Subject: Weight restrictions - Westway Shoppers car parks
Date: 11 November 2008 12:03:29 GMT
To: <snip>

Dear Mr ,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the 1525kg weight restriction in the above car parks, and hope the following provides the necessary clarification:

The 1525kg weight limit relates to commercial vehicles described in our Parking Orders as “motor vehicles constructed or adapted solely for the purpose of carrying goods”. The word commercial should appear on our signs before the weight limit but it would appear that they may have been removed and as such are being replaced today.

Accordingly, there is no weight restriction for private motor cars; motor cars are defined (Section136 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984) as “constructed solely for the carriage of passengers and their effects and is adapted to carry not more than 7 passengers exclusive of the driver”, which encompasses larger vehicles such as MPV’s.

I hope this has clarifies the situation and confirm that you are perfectly OK to be parking your vehicle in these areas.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards
