My dad loves this type of game, plays 2 AI on hardest level he can and goes through each map. played games such as RA, TA, CoH ect and keeps him happy.

So i bought RA3...

I knew it had something about being able to log onto the internet to get extra maps, but i was not aware, and neither does it make it clear on the packaging that you need interent connection to play it on a stand alone pc..

So know he is a tad upset and i feel like a puddin head...

I take it this is EA's new way of doing things and if you dont have interent access, tough.

Shame, will be taking the game back, hope i can get it refunded or swapped for something else..

If i'm correct you only need an internet connection to install the game, after that you can play it all you want without disc or internet in single player/skirmish/network, so i dont think you need to send it back without trying to put a temp internet connection on said computer. I know lots of people have problems with this drm on red alert 3, but in my experiance it hasn't affected me whatsover yet. As for the game it self i'll leave you to make your own mind up of it.

Surely you can connect it to the internet to register, or is your dad one of these people who refuses to connect his computer to the internet cos of all the bad stuff that will happen if he does!

I think your father is probably in the minority of gamers if he is still minus an internet connection. If the internet requirement is in the specs, then you won't get a refund, you may get a trade if you're lucky, though.

Good luck.

if possible try and take your PC box round to a friends house and plug into their router. Then register the game and take your PC home with you (after some LAN muliplayer ofcourse!)

So you dont need to have the pc linked to the net everytime he wants to play it??

i may just buy him a modem and get it on his pc while he isnt looking....

cheers all.

ps- cant see anywhere on the box that says it needs interent for single play, does for multiplayer.

I really am fed up with all the piracy talk on these boards.... surely people openly promoting piracy should be banned?

Edited slightly as the post above was modded as I typed!

colin i was the same, i'm at uni so any 3rd party apps (like games) trying to access the net are blocked which meant when i loaded RA3 i'd just get a black screen instead of the main menu. However I found for single player unplugging my ethernet cable solved the problem.

Edit: This was also fixed by the 1.03 patch i believe.

the pc hasnt got a nic cable or anything to get onto the net at all, it will do when i get back from the local pc shop - sorry OcUK, need it today and although your service is great, OCuK to manchester in 30mins is not something im even going to ask lol...

Will get this modem installed and let you know...

If this is how EA are going to do things, i wont buy any more games from them.

** updated - got a modem and now i can let my dad play it, so he is happy again. the box does say interent required, but in my defense, its under the min spec and i 'presumed' it was for online gaming, as it doesnt mention anywhere you need to go online to activate the game to play. I WILL NOT be buying another EA game after this. **

It clearly says Internet conenction needed on the specs so good luck on getting it swapped.

True Im afraid, Im quite surprised he doesnt have an Internet connection, if he is into games how does he download patches and the latest hardware drivers?

RA3 box said:
Internet connection, online authentication and acceptance of end user license agreement required to play

If he's anything like many other dads (especially those that may be a tad older), then it's quite feasible he does not have or use an internet connection.

Is their any reason he doesn't have an internet connection, i would try and convince him as sooner or later the user community will be making map's and playing Red Alert is great fun over the web.

If not then you could always try selling it on MM/Bay.

seems silly you need an internet connection, I wonder if any Wii or Xbox games need an internet connection before they work?

Also, is RA3 any good?

Thats a no. Great for the first few hours learning all the new things, after it becomes the easiest and most boring game ever in the c&c series. Only got it on tuesday and i'm already back playing c&c 3.

go back to red alert 1!! Re-live those awesome missions and get that warm feeling when you set the soviet dogs loose on the infantry or when you get that first pillbox... mm how I miss ra1.
