firstly thanks everyone who advised me on psu, case, 260 questions i had over that past week regarding the 260. :D

in my computer room at this moment in time is a brandnew rma replacement sapphire 4870 512 ( unopened ) and a 260 core 216 ( sitting in my system )
due to me being very impatiant i bought and evga 260 until the 4870 was replaced.
reading various people comments and rants and raves about which one to get, i can say without a doubt the 260 core 216 is the best card i have ever owned. it is phemominal ! !

my 4870 impressed me very much but this is something different.
the overclocking height on this is awsome and my vantage record has been smashed.
this is my opinion, this card has taken over the 4870 by some way, its cooler and so much more stable than my 4870 was.
its runs on my 580psu and it fits in a lexa blackine case.
this card has made my weekend

I'm running 2 x EVGA 260gtx 216 SC in SLi and I have to agree it's a great card. On air they will clock 740mhz core, 1550mhz shader and 2600 memory. Gives me 47FPS average on Cryisis Warhead benchmark on DX9 Enthusiast ambush flythrough 0AA....

It's quite ludicrous then that some ATI fans on this forum believe the 4870 to be practically on par with the G280, delusion is a wonderful thing.

Nobody said that, it can in some cases beat the 280 in certain games, but nobody I recall said it was the same as the 280. The 4870x2 however is a different matter.

Man I wish I had never read this...

/me trots off to buy a 260 (216) Black edition..

As for dx11..

The games I play and one's coming out soon are all for dx 9 and 10
So waiting for dx11 is a pointless execise

:)

How are actual games though?

Numerous professional reviews show the 4870 being around 10-15% slower than the GTX280 on average along their test suite of games...

Yeah i agree. I've had my EVGA GTX 260 core 216 a few days now and it's really a nice card. I used to have a 4870 as well and it was a very nice card, but the drivers are rubbish. The 260 gives much better min frames, runs very cool and you can hardly hear the fan.

The 260GTX 216sp along with 180 series drivers is solid imo - and I firmly believe gives a much smoother, stable gaming experience than the 4870.

my opinion on dx11 is like it was on dx10.

8800gtx was dx 10 and it ran all dx9 game flawlessly. currently dx 10 cards bit struggle in dx 10. and if u want to play dx 10 with massive fps buy dx11 card but then in some time games will come out that support dx11 but dx 11 card will struggle. so u will have to buy dx12 card to play dx11 games maxed out never ending circle.

if anyone gets my point

Hey, glad to hear you are happy.

Man how things have changed, all this b******* that I had taken a backward step from 4870 512 changing to a GTX 260 (192). I know I never had to prove myself to anyone, so I'll let other people do it for me in the form of threads like these!

Basically to reiterate what OP said, I smashed my 06, Vantage, Crysis and Warhead performance, obvisouly Far Cry 2 now and where people say - oh wt about GRID and CoD4 - well maxed them out, usually staying in triple figures so :p Obviously have the added benefit with PhysX and a cooler/quieter card going with NV. Furthermore picked mine up at the time for less than £175 new.
