Guys,

I've got the chance to get a GTX 280 for £250 (new). Its the XFX one, i'd have preferred the EVGA or BFG by hay. :)

Atm, my rig is..
E6600
8800GTX
Asus P5B-Deluxe
4GB Geil
Corsair HX620
X-FI Xtreme Music
+ the usual other bits.

I game at 1680x1050 on my Samsung 2232BW 22"

Is it worth the upgrade and can my machine and PSU power it?

Oh and i have the Antec 900, will it fit in that? :)

Cheers!

Remove the competitor link or your in for a suspension Quick

that psu will be fine :) i have the same one and it runs my gtx280
i also game at 1680x1050 and got the 280 to replace my 8800gt, it was a nice improvement & now i can have AA in a lot of games that i couldnt before

Ashamed to say, no. Its one of those things i've been meaning to do, just never had.

Are the connections on the 280 the same as the 8800GTX or is it a 6 and 8 pin job?

its a 6 + 8 but you should have 2x 6+2 connectors with the psu :)

The sli cables will be 6 pin each but have an extra 2 pins dangling?

Nope, not got that... :(

Can i get one from somewhere?

EDIT: just checked order history, got mine in April 07, did they start adding the new cables later i guess?

Hmm, i got my 620 at the end of september 07 (god knows when ocuk got that batch), recently ordered one for my brother last month and it had them too.

Are yours just 6 pins? (Not sure if they'd work if you did but have you checked you've not plugged the wrong end into the PSU?)

lol, yeah both 6 pins and both running the GTX atm, correctly. :)

Just looking onthe corsair webby, seems i can order extra cables, may give that a go...

Go for it, you should get a 6 to 8 pin adaptor with the card which you can use as a temp solution until corsair send you the 8 pin power cable.

i think i remember reading that you can run the card on 2 6pin connectors as the extra 2 connectors are not providing power, im not 100% sure on this  so wait for someone else to confirm or deny it before you give it a try

Didn't know they changed the cables! Also didn't know they supplied new cables, so ideal! lol

Yeah the card should have an adapter cable
