Got 3k, what should we get?

As with many of these threads, OP submits his opinion on what to buy. Asks for guidance, forum replys with good and bad suggestions. OP later buys on his primary opinion.

GL with the car :]

When you have your heart set on a certain car, imo, you will generally end up buying that car regardless of what people tell you, right or wrong! I was an easy decision for me because i have previously owned an A4.

I am glad i asked the question on here though, and thankful of course because i could have ended up with a 4cyl 318 with 100K+ miles which i now know would have been a poor purchase.

That wasn't what we were suggesting though, you know what the general consensus was. It just seems like the car you bought is slightly contradictary to what you were requesting that's all.

Blimey that seems very well priced, not bad at all. As its low mileage it will also never ever break ever.

Thanks Fox, over the moon with it tbh. Very shocked to get one with low miles at this price range, most we looked at were 90K+

You've mistaken his sarcasm for a compliment.

What I meant before was that the A4 is in a different league of ownership than what was being discussed (Mazda 6/Mondeo/Accord). Also you've chosen a car that has averaged 9 thousand miles over 7 years, indicating mostly urban use - read shopping trolley. This may mean more than average wear on suspension for instance, also the fan belt may be due soon etc...

To be fair, whatever car i chose in the end would have brought some criticism, high miles, average miles, red, blue, pink or diesel. I'm happy and that's what counts, time will tell whether or not it was a decent purchase.

Sure enough, i will be back asking for advice if i do get problems with my fan belt! :)

Can a passing mod/don please lock this thread. It has served its purpose. Thank you.

Before it does get locked just like to say a very tidy looking car for the money  Personally I think the colour really suits it. Seen a couple of these recently in great condition for decent money.

Maybe hes sick of reading ego ridden BS? :p

No one can argue for 3k the mazda 6 offers great driving and features to match.

Not everyone wants a 100K BMW with the worry of maintenaince.

At the OP,

Just buy what you want...and in budget.

What does fox know?

He's still at uni lol and not gotta a proper job yet even guv!

Anyone can regergetate magazines!

I never claim a overclock without trying it myself.

Maybe some should take note of this when posting about cars they have never driven! :p

EDIT: Seen you bought an Audi!

He can, because he's bought an Audi?

No **** sherlock, thats exactly the point I've been arguing throughout the thread. Clearly lost on the OP who then went and bought an Audi, however :p

What does fox know?

Nothing, obviously.

Because the amount of time you spend in the office day to day is directly proportional to your interest in and knowledge of cars

I've driven the A4, have you? No? Oh. So go and post your hypocritical insults elsewhere :)

I've gotta say I've pretty much agreed with fox all the way through the argument.. Even if he still is only a kid.

There's nothing wrong with the car the OP brought and I can see posters getting slightly distasteful with their comment towards the OP.. I'm sure he will soon be fully aware of the running costs of the A4, lets just let everyone get on with their own thing :p

Now we all know how argumentative fox can be, we know he loves his BMW and if you get him on the right topic he is like a dog with a bone, but he does know his stuff and on topics he doesn't know about he doesn't get involved.

I don't see why there is the need to try and bait him all the time (especially as it generally doesn't work anymore)

This is a forum and is to share views and opinions, if your too sensitive to have your beloved VTEC engine slated, don't post or even better form a constructive argument.

On topic: Nice car OP hopefully you have got a bargain.

awaits thread about a £900 nail with only 250k miles and a huge repair bill.

I agree this isn't the car to get for 3k

Just a bit of banter:eek:

When I was doing my degree I didn't have the time to drive loads and loads of cars...I was in the pub:p

This point was not really directed at you tbh. However I have driven an A4 and didn't like it.

Mazda 6 would have been such a better purchase at this price point.

Shush.

Nice car for £3k! :)

Cheers! not loads of money is it.

Maybe hes sick of reading ego ridden BS? :p

I'm old enough to ignore bs :)

Well he seems to know plenty about BMW's, but so could anyone tbh if you read enough magazines and watch Top Gear every Sunday :p
