Everyone at my uni was sent an email about MS's new student deal program. Whereby by registering with your university email address, you had access to MASSIVELY discounted software.

For example, I just bought Vista Ultimate 64bit for £49, full version of Office 2007 is there for £38. Furthermore, you can download it all and have a back up disk sent to you.

Loving it:p

Tbh, you would have to be an idiot to buy full retail, even at a discount. You can fresh install with an upgrade disk. You're not breaking any rules providing you have bought a previous version of Windows, even XP.

Microsoft's RRP for the Ultimate 64bit is £199.99 - so £49 aint too bad.

I was tempted, but I finished Uni earlier this year, but I still have my e-mail address :)

I will be an honest person though.

Yeah, so do we, we can even access our account and use their software anywhere in the world via Desktop Anywhere. This software deal if for the actual retail versions for personal use. For example the Office 2007 Ultimate is £449.99, whereas I can buy it for £38 :D

as has been said, Vista is an Upgrade copy only and I think any student thats on some kind of computing course at most universities and colleges in the country can sign up for it (not sure if it's only limited to computing students or if its open to anyone though)

I had my copy of Office last year for £38 :) also fairly sure that the licence for Office can be used on a couple of machines at the same time (seem to recall Bledd or Burnsy2023 or someone mentioning it in a post a while ago when we were last talking about The Ultimate Steal?)

You might also wanna check out MSDN:Academic Alliance (assuming your university subscribes to that) and DreamSpark for more free software to students. theres a thread around here about Windows Server 2008 thats available on DreamSpark as well as a few other MS development tools.

It's open to anyone (who is a student)

Yes office can be used on a 'mobile device' as well as a desktop.

I'm still trying to get the exact details of the licence from MS as it's not necessarily as good value as you might think depending on what MS say.

really? that would stop me needing to buy the 2nd copy of office.....how
does it work? can i download the trial from the website and use the same
key to get the full version?

Do you get Vista Ultimate and Office Pro? We get Vista Business and only the parts of Office we actually need (Visio and Access)

Vista enterprise edition is avalible on the server from which you can install any version of windows you want iirc. No idea about office, I prefer oo.
