I've recently discovered the game of DiRT which came with my graphics card around a year ago now, but have had nothing but problems with it.

When the game does work its great and I'm enjoying it. But how buggy is it!?

To start with the game experienced graphics problems and sometimes it said graphics drivers have failed. This wasn't too much of a problem as i could play for around 30 mins before it happened but it was still annoying! :(

So I updated my graphics drivers to the latest official 178.24 drivers. The same problem seemed to persist but now it has stopped totally :D because...

...the game just keeps crashing now... either at loading screen or during the first moments of the race without fail. I can not do any racing.

I've tried:
  • Safe mode
  • Updating graphics drives
  • Updating DirectX
  • Updating sound Drivers
  • Defragging
  • Updating to 1.2

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

Is your card overclocked, could be overheating ? I know its one for getting those GPU temps up quickly.

Also try the latest Nvidia driver from GURU3D.

Cheers for the quick replies.

Card isn't overclocked but Ive been monitoring the temps and they have got up to 93 degrees C. Ill get Rivatuner or something to change the fan speed to 100% and give that a try :)

Ill also have a look at those drivers.

Is the game patched to it's latest version?

Yep!

Yeah I was pretty shocked when I saw it.

But the strange thing is, its not as though the GPU has had a change to get up to 93 degrees by the time I have loaded the game, selected the race and got to the loading screen, which is where it usually crashes.

Thats even worse then, is the fan on ** GPU actually working ?

ya should set up the fan profile like i have, theres a guide on guru3D somewhere (im sure someone here has the link) that sets the fan to increase with gpu temp, you set the start temp and mion fan speed and then max temp with fan 100%

ie ive got mine saying 45% at 40oC and i think 70 is max with fan 100% and it works out that it idles at about 47oC with the fan at 45% and then when gaming the max the temp ever goes is 61oC and the fan speed increases with it up[ to about 65% :) so its not too loud and keeps it at a relativly cool level ;)

No luck!

Got the fan speed to 100% and tried some other drivers. I managed to complete one race and get a new person best, but then it froze

Any other ideas? Ill try lowering the graphics settings.

Temps are fine all round. CPU doesn't go over 40.

Thought I had it cracked. I changed some sound settings last night and the game was fine. It had been fine for a while until now. Its started crashing again!

May try a reinstall.
