The good old Sunday Express is launching a campaign to clean up TV.

In the face of a deepening crisis in trust over standards in broadcasting, the Sunday Express has launched a crusade to clean up television.

Against a background of 40,000 complaints about the offensive prank calls made by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand, the news*paper is behind a new Decency in Television charter.

The centrepiece of the new decency code is a ban on all swearing, before and after the 9pm watershed, with a £100,000 fine for offending broadcasters.

Echoing Mary Whitehouse’s Clean Up TV campaign, the charter stops short of censorship but urges the Government to overhaul the regulatory system. Watchdog Ofcom, which has no accountability to the public, has failed to prevent a decline in standards.

May I be the first to say **** off! If you don't like what's on the telly turn it over instead of censoring it. We don't all wan't to sit round watching 'Songs of Praise' and 'Antiques Roadshow'.
* Rant over *

Err me lost. :confused:

They want to ban all swearing even after the 9pm watershed yet describes this as stopping short of censorship? Goes to find dictionary to look up definition of "censorship" cause it cleary doesn't mean what I thought it did.

On the subject of this, did anyone see Clarksons 'apology' for the prostitute murdering joke last night? Thought it was delivered fantastically :D

Check this comment out, haha:

The worry is that anyone stupid enough to read the Daily Express, which is of course a tabloid trash newspaper, will be stupid enough to get behind this 'crusade' as the newspaper so patriotically puts it. I really couldn't care less about swearing on the tv after the 9pm watershed. The watershed is there to stop people who shouldn't be exposed to swearing from hearing it, so if irresponsible parents are willing to let their children hear it on tv, they have absolutely no right to complain about it.

What has a radio broadcast got to do with a television broadcast.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! You CAN'T!!!! All T.V would come to a stand still!!!!

So would all the revenue from the crap they'd publish on the participants and show itself. I wonder who'd feel the impact - tabloids perhaps ;)
