can i connect hdmi to my monitor and somehow run the sound through my amp . its a very old but awsome amp and if i cant do this i wont be buying a ps3 as the sound on my monitor is pants

thanks for your help
cheers

If your amp is as awesome as you say, it should accept Dolby Digital 5.1 TOSlink. You can use this method for your sound and connect the video via HDMI.

You can connect your amp to the ps3 via hdmi as well, but the above suggestion is equally correct as well. Depends what ports you have free on the amp I suppose.

I have my ps3 hooked up to my amp via a hdmi cable, and the amp is connected to tv via hdmi as well.

what i meant by awsome is the sound and power of the thing and its retro looks ( it is old rotel ra-712 ) not its connectivity . it only has an aux at the back . does that mean im out of look .

cheers

connectivity != awesomeness :p

As people have stated, it's possible to set it to output video through HDMI to your television, then use the supplied PS3 phono cables to connect the stereo output to your amp and set the PS3 to output audio via that.

So basically, if your stereo has some form of stereo input (ideally two L/R phono sockets) it'll work.

hi

so i dont need to change my amp is that what your sayin. if so that is awsome .

awsomeness is in the eye of the beholder hehe

cheers

To simplyfy things, does your amp have a couple of inputs like these:

If so, then yeah, it'll work just fine. I use a similar setup with my ancient (bought in the 1970s) Arc 101 system which is an utterly sublime stereo. As i said in my previous post, just because an amp doesn't have modern connections doesn't mean it's not fantastic :)

thanks streeteh and everyone else that pic is what i have plugged into my pc at the mo but it is in the aux socket . looks like ill be playing with big stereo sound this xmas not the tinny monitor speakers with my ps3 .

ill be getting ratchet and wipeout hd . have really missed wipeout since 2097 on the pc

cheers

I have the same setup, HDMI going to the tv for both video and sound (I sometimes play at night so use the tv speakers) and the RCA going to my amp for movies and games when I want. My amp is old so only has phone connections but still good for me.
