Divorce causes 'Purchase'

Best 3.8k ever spent :D
Turns heads at a couple of hundred yards, though to be fair that could be because of the 3 inch backbox at 8k rpm lol

A car will not get you girls!

Not by itself. But a McLaren F1 will add a string to your bow :p

Women do like cars. I'm not saying you that women will run a mile if you drive a Ford Fiesta but h3ll, ask any woman whether she would like to be driven around in a 20 year old Ford Granada or a Audi TT or Z4 convertible. They don't have a clue about what they're like to drive or even if they're any good or not, but instead see them as accessories...a bit like a brightly coloured pair of shoes

Shop around and you should get a passable barge for 2.5k, just be prepared to chuck it if it goes wrong, as when they do they cost silly money to sort, which is why they are cheap in the 1st place.

Im a recent convert to barge motoring, Ive always had a soft spot for Mercs, I prefer the image to BM's, plus im asian so its a must to own a Merc:p I picked up a facelift E220 CDI Elegance with all the trimmings for less than 2.5k, I dont drive a shabby car at the mo (Foc ST), but the feel of this in terms of fit and finish is in a different league, that said Im perfectly happy with the ST, its just you feel some body has taken some consideration with the small itty bitty things inside.

Shop around, read owner club sites for info and get yourself some class pimp motoring for less than supermini money.

Have you considered the older 5 series, thats still a very accomplished motor, or an older E class.Dont forget about the Lexus LS400, they are pretty good and uber cheap.Personally Id ***** 1.5-2k on 7'er.Do

Thank you for your well thought out, considered and intelligent input into this thread.
No probs. My point was that every 5th car on the road seems to be a BMW and and classic jag would stick out way more.
Would be less fun to drive though

There is that to it!... its a bit of credit crinchin' but not much due to running costs... yes its probly a midlife crisis, I'm allowed one after the wife left me!.. and I think a 5 series saloon is a bit more of a chick magnet than a 1.4 civic hatchback (especially in Swindon where their ten a penny!!).

Plus I want a change!.. I've gone with Honda's for my last 5 cars... I wanna try summut different!.. and a tad more powerfull!!.. (yep sounds like a midlife crisis to me!! :D )

any other suggestions other than a Bimmer then?!?!?...

hmm, you already have a car....going through a mid-life crisis....hmmm................R1:D:D:D:D

If you are going to buy a £2500 5 Series make sure you've got another grand tucked away in a bank account for the inevitable work it'll need during your ownership.

I did this without the 1k needed in the bank. Still going fine nearly 3 years later and has passed mots without a sweat.

It has had it's problems but no more so than any other car would.

New rad (design fault - rad was fine, stupid plastic coupling was not). - £105

Water pump, DIY jobby £50 (198,000 miles)

Main radiator hose, they tend to blow up when old, especially with a 4.4l v8 using it in "kickdown" :-) - £8

Steering lock broke - DIY fix, under £100, but free for me I hacked it.

Crank Sensor - £90 - DIY fix. (common issue)

Thats about it. The only other work I have had done are new breaks. - £140

The only thing you need the grand for is fuel!
