tipping posties and milkmen

I can understand in years gone by I suppose it had to do with getting to know the both of them. Almost like a friend.

Doesn't really apply now. You can see my post in the other thread about what our idiot does with our parcels.

never heard of the postie getting tipped. but usually the paper boys get a tip at christmas (we have had th same old guy delivering ours for as long as i've been alive)

I'd say the same for milkmen; a christmas tip. But it seems the days of a family milkman are all but gone. Times are changhing I think.

I always always tip the takaway delivery guys, and frown upon friends who dont lol.

Its not as if you are required to tip people. The worst thing is fancy bars and restaurants that just stick a service charge on your bill. So you havent really got much choice.

If you are happy with someones service, or you grow fond of the person that does that small job for you each day, then its not really that bad to give them a little christmas gift.

My postie is a right miserable sod. But when im out on my round i happily chat to people and even though ive only been doing it a few weeks a number of them know my name from asking me, and they chat to me each day.

Not as if bin men these days have it hard is it,i can remember when they had to lift each bin and empty it themselves these days its all automatic.

Not everyone can get qualified and have 'better' jobs, contrary to what the Government might think.

Not everyone is driven by money and a desire to have a fancy job.

Some people are happy in their basic jobs.

I bet being a binman is a lot less stressful than some office job with management and an obsession with figures and profits etc :)
