I know im no good with cryptic but the quick one is too easy so 3 of us, in the pub, decided to go for the cryptic one.... we got one, yes ONE answer in 30 mins...

see if you can work this one out and tell me how the answer relates to the clue please.... this was a easy one too lol..

Clue :- Snake gets bull (4)
Clue :- European terminal (4)
Clue :- Ex-model out of fashion, a little person (6)

If you get the answer, without cheating lol, let me know how it works please as i cant work out a way the answer relates to the clues...

Answer to follow so you feel as daft as we did lol...

there are load of clues but they are mad.

Colin - god i hate these crosswords...

Is that three seperate words, is it a phrase? 4 letters, 4 letters, 6 letters?

Clue :- Ex-model out of fashion, a little person (6)
Shrimp

It's a bit hard not having the rest of the crossword not knowing if any letters are correct or whatever... that's the best I could come up with so far.

3 seperate words.
How the hell do you get shrimp???? that is correct by the way, but we got words like midget, nissan, never even thought of shrimp!!

there where no more letters, we only got 1 clue out of the whole lot lol and none of the letters helped with these 3 clues. Just trying to see a pattern to the answers/clues, but not seeing it yet.

Cheers for the answer though :)

We though plug too, but its not right...

answers are as follows before you all find me and punch me!

Clue :- Snake gets bull (4) - WND
Clue :- European terminal (4) - POLE
Clue :- Ex-model out of fashion, a little person (6) - SHRIMP

god knows how you get them, although shrimp makes sense now i know its a person.

I had no idea who jean shrimpton is either, just looked at the disambiguation page on wikipedia for shrimp ;)

seems like there's something called a pole terminal (maybe), and poles are europeans so probably that.

don't know about the snake / bull one though.

colin, the only reason I got shrimp is because of the little person bit. Although I wouldn't have been surprised if it was wrong, I had no idea about the ex-model part.

The other two clues I had absolutely no idea on.

Snake gets Bull:
"Gets Bull" = Win (as in darts)
snake = wind (as in wind around something)

"Out of fashion" could give you "sh"
"a little person" = shrimp
which just happens to be an ex model "shrimpton"

"Terminal" = pole
"European" = Polish (pole)

Cryptic crossword clues .... odd.

It's a secret coded language which people who do the things gradually learn.

Don't read the clue and try to extract any meaning from the words in it.

You have to deconstruct the clue by using the secret knowledge.

I've always thought that there is something a wee bit snobbish about people who do the cryptic crosswords - they look down on us mere mortals who do the simple crosswords with disdain because they know a secret we don't. Wonder if they're all masons?

Stay down you peon! ;)

You're quite right though, you do have to learn the way they work. Mostly by practice and finding out where you went wrong.

The art of cryptic crosswords is getting to know the mind of the particular compiler. I used to do the Telegraph puzzle regularly and I knew I was going to struggle on Wednesdays, because that particular compiler had an odd mind, and a penchant for opera and ballet.

That shrimp one - certainly easier if you lived through, or have encyclopaedic knowledge of the sixties. The Shrimp was the first "super" model, just before Twiggy (sigh - look her up too :/)

ok, the bull one, i just about get... but POLE? come on.... how do you get that from EU termination!

i dont think im cut out for these, makes me want more coffee lol..
