Springing from the Quake 2 thread I was wondering if we could drum up some support for a weekly night of retro gaming?

I was thinking we could make every Tuesday night retro night - a chance for us to rediscover the classics from the past that are now more than likely gathering dust in your CD sleeve.

I am suggesting next week (18th) we have a game of Quake 2, add some discussion here as to what mod you'd like to play, I'd suggest either Rocket Arena 2, Action Quake 2, Jailbreak 2 or CTF.

Would be good to see how many people would be interested in this.

Cheers

I'm in.:)

I assume somebody will use a spare PC as a dedicated server? Might check out my internet connection, fastest most reliable connection would be the best host.

Then all we need is a rough time.

Need some help chaps :)

I trying to find the last releases of as many Q2 mods as possible.

I need the full mod and any server code that is needed to run a server.

I've got Gloom, will test it later on.

Having trouble finding a valid URL to download the Action Quake mod and the associated server code.

Lithium is available, but it has a security hole in it, so any info on patching this hole would be handy.

Thanks for any help :)

Need the games to be available free (legally if poss.), otherwise I certainly don't mind visiting a certain torrent site - it's not like they'll be making any money anyway, as you'd buy second hand!

But I'd defo be up for it!

Ill be up for some Q2 goodness - never played MP tho - didnt have net then :p

BF2? anyway ? i don't have quake lol
Behave :p

Anyone want to follow it up the week after with some Quake 3 - anything at least 5years old should fit into retro?

Yeah, Q3 was fun, it came out in 1999 I think so fits into the retro category. As would the original Unreal Tournament.

Gonna do a server test maybe Sunday or Monday night if anyone is interested.

I think my old, not switched it on for ages, Duron 800 should be OK to just run as a server. (Specs: Duron 800, 512KB RAM, Hercules GeForce 2 GTS, SB Live, Win 98.....:))

I've got a dedi with q3 setup on it. Let me know roughly what you want and I'll get it running + give out rcon to a few people.

Pings should be decent - hosted on Manchester Uni backbone via Idaq (not the best, but okay).

You taking requests? ;)

Personally I always enjoyed OSP mod with 3W maps (might aswell keep vQ3 ctf2 + 3 in the map rotation though) . Some old school RA3 could be fun too...

Gawd I havent played Q3 for so long :(
