bit of a problem keep my e8400 at 4.62 Stable

stuck at 4ghz at the min and the pc keeps crashing, BSOD, i can post upto 4.6 @ 1.45 volts but i havent dared to up it to 1.55 yet!

im wondering is there anyone who can tell me from my specs below what i can do to get more stabilty upto 4.6 ghz

specs.

mobo - Asus P5q Pro
Mem - OCZ reaper 2 x 2gb @ 2.2 volts
cpu 8400 @ 1.45 volts - 4ghz - Temp 36oC @ idle
north bridge @ 1.2 - 1.4 volts
south bridge 1.2 - 1.4 volts

How can i make it more stable. . . . HELP :(

Water cooling ? :p --

Custom PC Mag push all the CPU's to 1.5v in their reviews and its about 50/50 whether they are stable or not. Apart from the bragging factor do you really need 4.6ghz ? Does it make that much difference. I`m quite happy with my E8400 at 4ghz and thats on 1.3V stable.

You're lucky.... my E8400 will not go stable past 3.8 no matter what volts i put through it!!

To people asking "why" - is this or is this not an overclocking forum?

To the OP - could you provide more detailed information? e.g. multiplier, FSB, memory divider, tRD, cooling...

well yeah its surposed to be a Overcloknig forum, for HELP !

to get it at 4.6 Ghz, which compared to a standard 8400 its remarkably faster, regardless of how fast it is at stock rate.

ritte yeah , 4.62 ghz = 9 x 510 , cpu @ 1.47 volts.
mem at 5-5-5-15 to make em a tad loose. 2 x 2GB ocz REAPER.
Cooling, AIR of course :)
Cpu e8400 of course, With Stepping C0 / Artic freezer pro 7 / mx2 paste
north B, @ 1.55 volts
south b, 1.5 volts
All cased in a ANtec 900.

Well ive done some diggin about and apperantly most of my stability issues APPERANTLY are due to me having Vista 64. so other forums say so

How ever i also tried someting else and that was that stripped all my parts out from my mobo ( asus p5q Pro ) and stuck it all in my bros mobo ( GB, x48, DQ6 ) set the bios back up, put my settings in, rebooted and i got a 4.5 ghz stable :D @ 37 oC idle, 4.6, was a bit touch n go, Maybe due to the north bridge being so hot  This was using XP pro sp2 NOT sp3 CRAP !!

So time for a new mobo now :) i thought my mobo's limited memory capability might of slowed it down but even after flashing the bios with a NON asus bios and with a more memory capable ( knicked from a asus rampage :D ) tweeked here n then, i was still gettin stabilty issues :( :(

so now all is good :) no point in i7 not really not for a while yet :) so a good DDR2 board is on the cards.

Maybe an investment of water cooling as well, but having a water fountain in ** pc dont really appeal to me some how

you say ocz reaper, but what speed is it rated at, some reaper is only 400mhz... which, if this is the case, could very well be what's holding you back...

try changing ** mulitpley to 9 :D less strain on the cpu than 7.5

+ i would send it back saying its faulty :P

haha, thought about sending it back but its one of the frist ones out. think i got it the day ocuk had them on sale, seems like a lot of effort as would have to go back to intel.

i've tried leaving it at 9 but will not go past 3.8/9. so i figured that having a 500fsb with 7.5 to get about 3.8 was better? that not right then?

Youve hit the nail on the head there m8y

cpuz, says memory is actually rated at ... 400 MHZ  so much for the 1066  but its currently operating at 450 mhz, 5 -5 -5 12 / 2T @ 2.2 volts as per the dimm states.

however at default bios settings @ 3ghz, i can ramp the memory upto 1200 mhz :D, 600 each.

what ive also found out is, when i revert my cpu back to default and prime95 test the memory, it pops up with failures at the defulat operating fequency  . HEAP OF JUNK !!! Thank god for the lifetime warrenty :D

Dominator memory here i come :D when i get paid next :(

cheers viper ;)
