I've always liked scythe's offerings although the tuniq's supposed to be excellent if you have the space.

If you want something of a similar size/design then the silverstone NT06 Lite is a darn decent cooler though i don't think it's better than the SI-128 though.

How exactly does it mount on the phenom? Not had any experience of them - similar to socket 939 mounts?

2 mounting brackets each side and one going a cross with a silly like ball in the middle..

the heatsink still turns even when its tight....

anyway it's a Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME any better for cooling performance?

I can recommend the Noctua NH-U12P cooler. I managed to fit that with no problems at all, keeping everything respectably cool and most importantly is very quiet. I'm pretty happy with it.

so which is better than my Thermalright SI-128, is it the Noctua NH-U12P cooler or Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME?

edit: the Noctua NH-U12P cooler is to high, it won't fit in my case.

does anyone think the Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME will be better than my Thermalright SI-128?

well i've ordered the Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME , so i'm hopeing it's better than my Thermalright SI-128. if it isn't i will just send it back and maybe get the above cooler.

Temperature-wise, my AC7 and EXTREME were almost identical, the only problem with the EXTREME is the awful fitting solution for the 775 boards, mine almost fell off, looks to be better for AMD boards tho.

Just ordered an SI-128, but the newer SE version, it comes with a bolt-thru kit and has some lateral holes through the fins to help with airflow.

the older SI-128 is good but it's just how it mounts on the cpu its crap. one thing i think is abit silly about the Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME that is the fan is inside the cooler. so wouldn't the air be warm already when it's sucked though the fan?

I would be suprised if any of the above mentioned coolers offer any improvment you are best to buy a more powerful after market fan for the current cooler

not all coolers are born equal.. the SI-128 is a decent cooler.. with out upgrading to a TRUE you are only taking a sidewards step at best

i know the SI-128 is a decent, i've already said that above. but i've explained why i want to change it + why i don't want another Thermalright.

well you have said you want "the best" cooler.. that is the TRUE.. as I have said anything else is a sideward or backward step.. compaired to what you currently have

Unless you are re-mounting your cooler every couple of days may be a bitch to get on but once its on does it matter? As I say if you want better performance with the SI-128 get a more powerful fan

Have you considered the Coolermaster GeminII?

Not supposed to be amazing but possibly comparable and helps cool a large portion of the mobo.

Height minus a fan measures 81.5mm vs the ultra 120's 160.5mm.

Even with a fan attached the height of the cooler will be around 106mm so quite a bit shorter.
