I just hoping for some advice on overclocking, i know theres plenty of threads but id just like to narrow it down...
i have an Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus and my cpu Q6600 ofcourse, with an AC7 Pro cooling it, could anyone tell me what settings i should enter in the bios, do i just mess with FSB? i really not sure.. hoping to get 3Ghz also could anyone tell me what temps they get with a Q6600 with an AC7 Pro thanks?
i also have a 1.2500 Vid ;)

That's a great VID you got there. Should be able to get a few more hertz out of that. Yeah, just play around with your FSB setting. I've only ever used gigabyte boards, and I have to set an option called "core host control" to enabled. You might have to do something similar but with a different name.

I have a 1.2625 VID on my Q6600 - currently running in a Asus P5Q Deluxe with an AC Freezer 7 Pro at 3420, Load temp is in the low 50's (core 0 and 1) and high 40's (cores 2 and 3) using prime 95, idle temps drop to low 20's :)

Oops - by low 20's I actually meant low 30's at idle (never post before you have had your morning coffee!).

:eek:Measured with what?

imagination im guessing

- OP - with a vid like that - i imagine 3GHz would be easy

you may not even need to go above stock voltages

try setting FSB to 333

and your multiplier to 9

obviously use a memory divider that allows your RAM to run at [or close to] its rated speed

come back and post if you have issues

Yeah, i should imagine so, thanks for all the input guys, ill give that a try but im just curious on what you mean by 'obviously use a memory divider that allows your RAM to run at [or close to] its rated speed' also on how i would do that? also ive just been in bios i found the multiplier, but couldnt find FSB does anyone know what that may be under on a Asus Mobo?
thanks

Your RAM speed is linked to your FSB speed, so as you increase your FSB, your RAM clock speed will increase. We don't really want that, so you'll need to lower your memory multiplier/divider/whatever it's called to keep it close to its rated speed. You'll see an option for it in your BIOS.

fsb is front side bus

or clock speed

clock frequency
or something similar

also be sure to turn speedstep off

c1e in the bios

This is quite embarrasing but i cannot find nowhere the FSB ive seen few things which says FSB but its set auto, and only options i get are linked etc. :S

post up a pic of your bios

or a list of every setting

then we can help more

enhanced C1 is disabled - this means speedstep

its your call if you want it on or off - i only turn mine on once i have a nice stable overclock

im not that familiar with that bios although i have used it before

leave the multi at 9

go down to overclock options and enable that [first pic]

then see if an fsb option crops up

you need to set AI tuning to MANUAL

then you get overclocking options

under that it says fsb and memory config

once AI tuning is enabled these options should be open to you

Ive done that mate.. in the Manual.. still none of the options come up to manually put the FSB up the only overclocking function possible is the AI Thing which in bios saves 5%,10%,15%+ etc.. but ideally i need to do it using the FSB right? for stability etc?
