Hey all,

Hopefully if i get a job this afternoon I will have some redundancy money to spend from my last job.

Is it possible to spec a water cooling setup to cool a 6300 and possibly a 4870 gfx card (when i get one), my budget is £150 (lower if possible!)

Thanks

Check on the MM. Always watercooling kit sat there.

Got some up myself at the moment TBH.

Cooling the GPU could end up being costly since full cover blocks for the 4870 are pretty pricy at around £60 to £80. Also, i tend not to like watercooling GPU's since i swap mine out a lot. They seem to update very frequently compared to other hardware.

This would only leave between £70 and £90 left for a cpu block, pump, tubing, rad, res and all other mounting kit.

I personally have the CPU and northbridge cooled as the mountings are quite standard. 2nd hand you'd be able to get a loop for between £100 and £120.

A quiet air cooler on the GPU would then be you sorted.

this is what i got for my cpu

much better than a kit from thermaltake etc

its all pretty standard stuff

but i plan on upgrading it bit by bit anyway

and it cools my quad well and is quiet

[q6600 @ 3.4GHz @100% load/8hours @ 58'C max]

i ended up getting DTek hose fittings [as ocuk had no stock]
but you get 2 included with the waterblock anyway

just add a 120mm fan of your choice
i used a sharkoon silent eagle 2000
but any would do

i ommited clips as i didnt need any with the tubing being so tight on the barbs
but they are cheap enough anyway

do what gt junkie said and leave the gpu alone - i got a thermalright trad2 on mine - its quiet and just as good as waterclloing the card

You migt as well go for a better CPU block and bigger rad if you plan to add the GPU in the future than in that spec.

You want 1/2" barbs and more than 1. Dtek high flow are best but dunno if they sell them. Tubing is fine but you will want 2m, coolant is fine, Block is good but to save a little a fusion V2 is as good for a few quid less. Go for a feser or thermochill double rad if you can afford it over the XSPC if you plan to add your GPU at a future date. Cant really comment on the bay res pump as I use separate pump and res as its the preferred choice. If you connect your forums account and the site one you will get free shipping meaning you have more to go towards the rad.

Obiously if you shop around you can prolly knock £20 off that or get a better pump/res for the money.

Both the dual bay/pump res and gtz block are good products. I have them in a large single loop with EK blocks for gpu, nb, sb and mosfets but using a quad exchanger giving idle temps of 34c with the E8500 cpu and 40c on a 8800gtx. So either of Bradley8988 or GinG suggestions are good starting points. BTW the dual res combo is supposed to be the better product but if your considering adding a gpu later you might want to pay that bit extra for a triple rad. You might want to have read of a few reviews of water blocks etc to help make up your mind on choice. Martins Liquid Lab well worth a visit.

is it better to go for the dual bay/pump or just the single would you say?

also is the xspc rad any good? I know its half the price but is the tfc one really worth double?

thanks

Yes You will only upgrade it due to not been able to cope with gpu etc im running a double and single XSPC rads in a loop with GPU's and CPU in my spec and you dont wanna know my CPU temps.. Really my spec thats £13 more than yours and is well worth it. The GTZ block is on par with the DTEK fusion V2. I cant see why not just get a pump and not run a res at all untill you can afford a nicer one then add it in? Ging get on MSN.
