What do we think of metal plates like this one? (with Audi surround)

The current plates on the TT look a bit tired and dull so I was just gonna get some normal GB ones but saw these and wondered what the general consensus was.

Only if you have 19" BBS split rims with stretched rubber IMO, then it only looks slightly gay.

Standard GB EU plastic jobbies look the best IMO.

There is huge debate at the moment about just how legal they are - even though they are BS marked there is concencous that they are still not legal.

As for the surround why would you want a German surround on a UK car?

I think pressed metal plates on older cars look fine - they were after all common in the late 70's up to mid 80's.

Don't really see a problem with them on newer stuff either if I'm honest, I've always preferred them to plastic ones.

The Euro-look scene has done them to death though. They only really suit some German cars, and then they look rather cliched.

The surround only looks decent on the back of the car not the front because the back has enough room for them to fit in without sticking out and looking odd whereas the front of the majority of cars has a specific size slot for the number plate only to go into and that slot only looks good with just the standard plate in there!

Why do they only suit German cars? They were used in Britain for years.

Well, mainly because that's what they're now associated with. They look fine on older stuff, just not so good on newer cars really. My Civic would look retarded with pressed plates.

Me too. They don't crack/shatter at the sight of a small stone or some pillock using your bumper as a reversing aid for starters.

My front one has cracked through somebody doing this, 2 days after the changed the law so dealers cant print smart looking plates with logos etc on anymore :(

I don't really see the point in them in all honesty.

Just kinda says "yea, i want illegal plates, but i'm not quite brave enough to get them, slap a £30 fine on me for trying though!"

Looks ok to me. I've been running with black plates for about half a year without any trouble from the Police.

I think they look decent enough - but one man's wine is another man's poison. :)

Black plates instantly make every car with them fitted (bar pre 72 ones obviously) look totally crap. Even nice cars. I just dont see the point.

I wish they'd hurry up and fine you Durzel so you can stop spoiling your car :p

Get them, Atleast they wont crash from a bird or a slight nudge.

WTF dont you lot have metal ones anyway? Plastic is sucha stupid idea

Don't agree, Toms M5 looked great with black plates.
