Part Quote

Virgin Media has invited 200 customers in Warrington in Cheshire to be the first to try its forthcoming 50Mbit/s broadband package at no extra cost for two months.

The cable firm has upgraded its network to support the DOCSIS3 standard. The rollout has recently been cited by regulators and politicos as evidence of the UK's preparedness for increasing bandwidth demands.

But what about traffic shaping . . . .

apparently for the initial trial period running till march next year those lucky enough to get on it wont be subject to traffic shaping...

once the initial period is over they will analyse data usage and decide from there..

So much for them having 40% of the network on 50mb by Christmas.

It's come to the point now that i think they shouldn't announce anything unless they are ready to change as this happens every time and drags on for months.

TBH the longer they take to roll it out the better. The more time theyve got to either upgrade the backbone or do whatever re-segmentation they need to do to ensure its a service they can practically provide...
