Starting on Sunday night at midnight, I am going to live off 1$ a day for two weeks, which is 67p.

I will have no money for transport will have to walk the 15 mile round trip from my house in South London, to my law firm everyday.

I am raising money for the current crisis in the DR Congo.

Please sponsor me to help me through the challenge!

Cheers,

I know its for a good cause, but sensationalise. Some people don't realise how much a dollar will buy you in some countrys.

Good luck you'll be needing it..

Is he gonna get his water from the Thames?

I guess not, so that isn't living on $1 a day.

Exactly, this is utter non-sense. Just give some money to charity and encourage others to do the same, rather than take on pathetic rubbish like this which isnt even being achieved.

I'm not actually sure how this is going to work
As has been said, in most 3rd world countries $1 will get you a lot more than over here. What sort of foods are you planning on buying? And will you be showering, watching TV at home, livnig off supplies in your fridge, etc? If you have those luxuries then it sort of defeats the purpose in a way...

Maybe he'll cut off his utilities as well? Although that might make updating his blog tricky. Also washing. Quite a cool idea if he's going to go the whole hog.

This thread should be renamed

"Please sponsor me for walking to work and eating cheap food"

I think it would be more appropriate to rename the forum.. "Bunch of ***** Who Enjoy Ridiculing Someone Elses Fundraising Efforts"..

no?

I mean honestly, what impact does this guy have on your life by choosing to try and live off $1 a day. Its his life, his decision, his way of earning sponsorship money.

I know you arnt saying dont give money to charity, but it seems you have some personal vendetta against the way this guy is going about it, which is ridiculous.

I have to say I'm rather disappointed by all the negativity.

I did think of potentially sleeping outside, but whatever happens, you'll always have something of material value - be it a tent or a sleeping bag. Its impossible to not have some sort of possession/benefit over the two week period. Even the billion people round the world who live off $1 a day still have houses and other possessions, like cooking utensils. The point is that they do not spend, on a daily basis, any more than $1, which I am doing in an advanced industrialsised country The point is to make it as hard as possible, which is why I am walking and not, for example, cycling to work, as I think that is an easy cheat but one that can practically speaking be avoided, unlike the house I live in, for example. And to the person who says I am just 'walking to work' I am not sure many people will do a 15 mile round trip.

Furthermore, it is likely I am only going to have 1000 calories per day as I'm living off simple, staples of the world, like rice and lentils - and nothing else.

I don't understand the criticism of the photo; it illustrates precisely what the problem is.

If you don't like or agree with the challenge, then go elsewhere, there is literally no benefit in criticizing it for anybody. If this idea is so absurd, then why bother commenting on it at all?

I do admit, it is a great feat if you manage to pull it off, and I'm fairly sure you'll have the support of people on here. Most people just wanted to know how far you was actually going with it :)
