Do you think I can get 200BHP from a NASP 1600cc

I've already done a standard bottom ended 16v Gti with just a big valve head, kent cams and barell throttle bodies and got 182bhp ish (from memory) I'm sure I can do better. :D
Is the 16v 1.6 very similar to to the 8v 1.6 in the 205? If so you may be able to upgrade your engine to a 1.9 without as they are very similar engines, same bore size with a longer stroke.

Speak to QEP, pumabuild or longman for whats involved. It won't be cheap, and it won't be easy. You cant just buy a whole heap of parts and hope to get that power, it needs careful headwork, careful cam choice etc. QEP have been using George Leakes (Edleakes brother off here) engine as a testbench for the last few years and think they have finally cracked getting 200bhp with a nice wide torque spread.

I do think for the money spent there are better options. It cost me bugger all really to get 160 bhp but doubling that increase in power again you are talking 10x the cost.

Fox I never set out to get any more than 160bhp, it was 200bhp per ton and more than enough. Just a shame I made the wrong choice in getting my standard ecu remapped (£500) which later cocked up and left me carless and eventually lost interest in it. I should have gone standalone management all along and if I had would still probably be enjoying it to this day.

My target is 140-150bhp and a nice wide torque spread with my 1.3 rallye. I said I would never mod a car again, sadly I've been bitten by the bug! Doing it properly from the start this time though.

Mike, no the 205 engines are XU blocks the 106 ones are TU.

im dumb lol, what is going on all these words! someone dumbify what happening, i.e what is a nasp
edit im gonna guess and naturally aspirated..

I can't stand the 405 ! Q car my ass. :p

and yes Eliot Nasp is Naturally aspirated.

I also said, even before the scoob I wouldn't mod another car but I just can't leave em alone you know. :D

Q car as only 400 hundred ever being built (50 of which were used by the french police). Only 6 known in the UK. Being the last 4wd production car ever built by peugeot. The engine inside the 405 T16 was used and developed further to help power the 206 WRC to 24 WRC rally victories and 3 titles. Or you could spend a further 2k and still have a FWD 106 gti with a engine that revs higher and has 80 more bhp........

I can't stand the 405 ! Q car my ass. :p

Definitely a Q car, to most it looks like an old dated french saloon, which it is :)

Always thought these went for silly money, although I know 6k on a 405 is 'silly' money always thought these were more for some reason.

Do it.

Just make sure you do a project thread.

And make cool videos, I've got "Are you big in Japan" on my PC somewhere, one of my faves :D

I think location might be a issue with the price. It does seems very cheap for what is a piece of automotive history.

Btw love your sig :D

the whole thing was hugely expensive and wasn't worth it.

As is tuning a lot of cars to be honest - a (race) driving school can yeild better results, meaning you'll go faster in a bog basic motor if you know how to drive it properly
.

I agree with tha majority = a waste of time/effort/money. Say you did finish it and complete the objective, the first time you take it out you can guarantee a diesel will overtake you ;) or a famiyl hatch/sales rep etc. When you could buy a better quicker car for less than it would cost to do the project, you would have to seriously love a 106 for that.

I'm pretty sure that he knows that he can buy a better/faster car for less money, that's not the issue here. It's his job and his hobby, it's an exercise in seeing if it can be done purely because he enjoys doing it.

How many people buy a processor then overclock the nuts off it with water cooling and all sorts of stuff when they could've bought a faster one in the first place? Same thing.....

Go for it, half the fun of a project like that is building it yourself.

I could have spent £8k on buying a quicker car but chose to modify a mk2 Golf and the end result is so much more fun and satisfying. I also used to run a modded Impreza and dont regret at all moving on to the Golf.

Suprising much "quicker" cars on track in something you've built from scratch makes it all worthwhile!

Once you've finished remember the sticker on the back:

"Built Not Bought"

;)

Reliably no.

I'm interested to know why you think it would be unreliable? Loads of FI cars run in excess of 125bhp/litre reliably, revving an engine high with a lumpy cam in would stress it more than ramming compressed air down its neck all the time. Heck, Nissan have released a ~200bhp NASP 1600, and Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi have been there or thereabouts.

Had a spooky day today on the rollers.
A dyno day from PSOCC (Pug sport owners)...
One of the guys had an engine built by the guy I was going to get to do the head work and spec the bits...
Made 199.9 BHP lol

Will upload the graph later. :D

A road engine originally, now competing in the Castle coombe championship and has been finishing 1st in class most of the year. :D
12 seconds ahead LOL

So it looks promising...
