Well I think I've found out why the line (it's basically a line 1pix wide that borders any video you play in any video player, the line is the opposite end of the edge of that side of the video, still with me? read on!)

Basically I noticed today that whilst watching 1080p videos that I could not see the 1pix border any more, strange! I downloaded a 720 and 480p of the same video (trailer) and noticed they had lines when viewing full screen or they were not being viewed at 100% video size (unscaled up).

So pretty much it goes down to this:

1: Any video that isn't the native width resolution to your screen has the border around the video

2: Native resolution videos (1080p on a 1920x1200 res monitor) don't have the border.

Anyone know a fix?

If I remember right I only started noticing it when I moved to ATI ! though maybe I noticed it on nVidia too as I moved to Vista64 mid upgrade!

nope not codec related as it happens on any video format and I use different codecs for different formats (not any packs)

i have seen it in the past and know what you're talking about....and also agree it is the opposite side of the picture which i noticed myself too..........but havent seen it for quite some time though.

What hardware and drivers are you on can I ask? I've updated to every CAT since I got the 4870 and each one has the issue although you don't notice it unless you're looking for it!

Or the video codecs you are using just so I can trial them out!

codecs

klite (klcodec395f)

ati 4850

monitor is a sammy 226bw using a DVI connection.

usually use media player classic to play the files

ok ive just booted into vista and played some vids(non HD as i dont have any codec packs installed in it) and the lines are there.
so it seems its more of a vista related issue...i knew i hadnt seem them for ages as i never playback vids in vista :p

oh and i did try the same vids and HD ones in xp.

Hmm strange! It's to do with the way Vista displays video overlays. I notice if you disable Aero the issue goes away!

Since the Vista DWM uses GPU hardware and when Aero is off DWM is disabled - this would mean the answer is yes!

It's in relation to ATI only as I don't remember ever seeing it on nVidia.

What I meant was, does it only happen on video decoded by the GPU?
