Shoes for tuxedo

Im going to a black tie event next month, i have my tux sorted but im stuck on what shoes to get, ive seen some i like which are black and white patent shoes or all Black.

What do you guys n gals think.

please dont go with black and white whatever you do it looks daft just a nice simple pair of well shined black shoes is all you need

patent leather is the norm but high polished smart black shoes ok

also if your wearing a bow tie please resist the urge to go for a wacky coloured one so you stand out, you will just look like a ****

Tuxedos are white. Dinner suits are black. Unless you're american... I guess thats why people are so confused about it now as people have been using the wrong word for so long.

This isn't saying you can't wear a subtle colour other than black though.

I have a red one that matches my red braces. It's not bright red, more claret. Team alliegance prevents me from wearing a black bow tie...

I personally think patent shoes look silly. Much prefer something like these.

That ok then ive orderd a royal blue bow tie and cummerbund to match the wifes dress.

Tuxedo is not complete without patent shoes. I probably wear mine 5 or 6 times a year at various events and always have the patent shoes to complement it. Nothing looks worse than a smart tuxedo with a pair of scruffy shoes.

no tuxedo and dinner jacket are simply american and british words for the same thing

tuxedo is simply the american term for dinner jacket since the dinner jacket was first introduced to the US at the tuxedo club in new york and subsequently adopted by the members - they can be any colour you want though most are black.

Nowadays thats kinda true as the incorrect usage has found its way into our everyday language. Traditionally speaking, and Id know considering how many balls I go to, that if you wish to use the words absolutely correctly. White is tux. Black is DJs..

sorry but you're wrong

a white dinner jacket does sometimes get called a 'tuxedo' over here but that is incorrect usage of the term

a Tuxedo is simply the US name for a dinner jacket the name comes from a club in new york state called the tuxedo club - tuxedo is an american term and it simply means dinner jacket
