I have been asked by a client to supply him with 2 identical machines. Fairly low spec as they are to be used for one task only in a warehouse (monitoring cranes). They will be connected to a domain for access to the software required for the task hence I plan to install XP Pro for him.

The question is

1) Will I opnly need one copy of XP Pro as only one of the machines will ever be in useare any one time. EAch machine will be simply a backup of the other.

or

2) Does XP Pro cover 1-2 machines in any case.

I'm pretty sure that option 2 is correct but can anyone confirm?

Cheers.

THe company does not have a VLK as far as I am aware, but I am sure I have seen COA Labels that states installation on 1-2 machines is ok for Windows XP Pro ?

You will need two XP Pro licences providing the company doesn't have a VLK.

You would need 2 licences whether you have a VLA or not.

It states 1-2 physical CPUs per machine not machines. You will definetly need one licence per machine.
