I'm moving some of my stuff into my gf's house, mainly my TV and entertainment system... I spend more time there so might as well have full use of it in her home and we can both enjoy the TV /PS3 etc..

Thing is, its a panasonic plasma, and it won't fit into my or anyone's car who I know upright in the box...

i can lay the box down in an hatchback no issues, but I've heard you cannot lay them down flat (tried this with the empty box as a test), yet google searches have returned results saying you can, if no laying down on it's face......

So, can i lay it down in its face? Or is this risky?

I reckon I'm going to have to rent a van, and move it, as i'm not too comfortable moving it without the protective box wrapping...

someone said I could place it upright on the back seat without the box, but a sudden stop and its all over in my mind.... doesn't sound safe..

Thanks..

It's not a great idea to place lcd/plasma flat, face down or not. The screen can sag away (or into) the enclosure and cause irreversible damage. Saying that, it does take some time. If its only a 10-20 drive I would say you'd be fine, I drove my 26" LCD 40mins down to Bristol and it was fine.

I would rather have it naked on the backseats with seatbelts/pillows though.

I carefully wrapped mine in a Duvet (King Sized) and then used the seatbelts to hold it in position on the back seats... Then Drove like a 70 year old man!!..

Use the rear seat belts to hold it.

I have done this with a brand new 42" plasma screen, that I collected a while back from Curry's in the back of a MK1 clio.

Take the box top off.. with careful arrangement of the seatbelts you can secure it in place with no risk off damage. DO NOT lay it down!!

LCD can generally be transported flat. Plasma's are another story. Not advisable but 42" are OK as long as its a short journey. I'd hate to try anything larger!

I moved my new 42" Panasonic flat in the box over 11 miles. Steady all the way and no problems.

My 42" plasma fitted in the box, vertically on the back seats of my car. But I had to wind the windows down as the top of the car is narrower than the middle. i.e. the top corners of the box were sticking out. (vectra estate)

With some careful arrangement in my gf's car we've managed to move a panasonic 42" plasma in the box upright without problems...

Amazing what you can fit in an hatchback focus...!! My honda accord wouldn't even carry the stand without me flat packing it...

Its all moved, safe... gf hated the trip, she drove no faster then 50mph the whole way, but better to be safe then sorry..

Thanks all....

Well done. Told you it wouldn't be a problem as long as you didn't lie it down and you secured it properly :)

Let's be honest, they get transported thousands of miles in general, so just do what the transporters do and follow the instructions on the box :D
