Hey guys,

I was comissioned to do the photos for an up and coming band call Elias T Hoth the weekend before last, their first gig together and my they put on a good show! AMAZING lighting setup. although difficult to work with as the lights all changed colour and brightness a LOT. Lots of effort went into it all, was glad to be a part of it if anything!

I've not finished editing the set yet, took about 30gb (doesnt go that far at 30mb a raw though ) of photos in total here's a few from that:

A couple from the start of the gig before the music kicked in and just the intro loop was playing:

And Some strange colours! NO colours were added, only thing i have done is obviously converted some to b&w.....for example the shot of the drummer that is red looks like ive thrown a red layer over the shot, that was the actual lighting!

The rest of the phots i have done so far can be seen at my all new only just started blog!

There are plenty more to come, these were all from the first half of the gig, i stopped editing when i got to the interval.

One thing that has impressed me personally, look at the exif data on any of these if you wish, almost all of these were at iso3200 and even then half of them were under exposed by sometimes up to 3 stops, and NONE of them have been through any noise reduction. Bloody impressive to me!

Thanks for looking guys,

PS if anyone wants to know more about the band, http://www.eliasthoth.com/ ! Some manchester based forumites might have heard of them, they've had some publicity via rock radio over the last few months.

Absolutely fantastic.

The only extra thing I would have liked to have seen as part of the portfolio would have been some with the audience in too. Otherwise, it can look like they've just turned up and played only for the camera.

Nice work. I know what you mean about the colours - I once shot a jazz gig and carefully selected tungsten-balanced slide film (it was thirty years ago!) but some git had put straw gels over all the lights so it looked like I'd used daylight film anyway.

Tom, are you just a tog or do you have another job aswell?

Unfortunately photography isnt (yet) my main career! I work as the manager of a camera shop too, so at least it's kinda related. Hopefully looking to make more of the photography though, need to keep practicing and getting my name out there though!

Cheers for the comments guys :)

There are some shots like that but i focused on getting the main images right first, and they are therefore towards the end of the night, and these are only from up to the interval! So keep your eyes pealed :)

I had a quick look on the blog but the ones posted here say it all, superb stuff!

Was any of the lighting a part of your setup too or was it all the stage and you just adapted to the stage's lighting ? either way superb stuff and all the more proves you don't "need" f2.8 to get that kind of level of imagery :)

I wish Portsmouth had gigs like this, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough in which case I need to look harder!

Oh and you're invisible on MSN apparently!

i took my lighting just incase but there really wasnt much i couldve done to try and overpower this set up.

The lead singer had paid for this gig out of his own pocket, it cost him a fortune, there was a full TV crew almost there as well with 4 proper broadcast HD cameras, and the lighting cost £2000 for the night! Took them 3 days to set up the church hall to look like that.

you already know my thoughts on your work. As usual some stunning work there, particular favourites are 5, 7 and 14

Sorry i never got round to sorting out last weekend, but i got collar'd by the missus.
