Hello,

This is my first post on the motors forum
I have a peugeot 306 R Reg. I believe the thrust bearing is shot, sounds like an old diesel.

Anything I can do with out spending much £££??, car's really not worth it.

If it is the thrust bearing it's a new clutch.

The kits are about £100 which is surely less than what the car is worth. I'd hazard a guess that to have it done is also less than the car is worth at about £300-£400.

Either way it's worth doing if indeed this is the problem.

Dont fancy spending £400 on this car, as well as other problems etc. Such as duff heater matrix and that the car has done 75k miles. Ive done 6.5k in the last 6 months.

I know its on its last legs - Will sell it to an unsuspecting person in the spring (jk'ing)

I've never heard a thrust release bearing make a car sound like a diesel - what makes you think it's the thrust release bearing? When does it make the noise? What sort of noise is it?

Such as duff heater matrix this is a standard feature on the 306

and that the car has done 75k miles. pretty much the max you'll get out of a petrol engine, it's due to explode.

I know its on its last legs - Will sell it to an unsuspecting person in the spring (jk'ing) just polish it, kids pay stupid money for them ;)

Any chance of a video or recording ? Might be able to help here.

How is 75k miles pretty much all you will get out of a petrol engine?....... loads of life left in that tbh

exhaust manifold stud. £10

Exactly the same thing happened to me on my old 1.6 306. One minute im driving fine and the next thing it's sounding like a tractor. Mainly due to the fact my manifold was not attached properly anymore. Found out to be a snapped exhaust manifold stud.

Deffo something to do with the manifold/downpipe anyway. A common problem with the TU engine.

While french cars may have their problems engines are not one of them. The TU and XU series were/are as solid and dependable as any and 75k is nothing. Yours being a 1.6 will be an XU engine.
