Why? Core 2 was not that far ahead in terms of performance per clock.

They had significantly higher headroom in clock speed which Phenom II seems to have addressed, along with IPC improvements.

At 3GHz the current Phenom is more than capable of matching the Core2, get the CURRENT Phenom to 3.2GHz and beyond and it starts to pull ahead of the Core2.

Im hoping these match the new i7 range, but at a much lower cost.

Improved performance is a given, we can thank the added cache for that.

I just hope overclocking potential will be closer to 4GHz than 3, then we definitely have AMD back in the arena.

Ok so i7 will more than likely still be the outright performance king, however for most of us the more *affordable but nearly as competitive Phenom II will be ample especially in gaming.


*I can't see AMD costing anywhere near what the i7 does.

Its 3GHz at stock, so thats a good start

Its ment to do around 4Ghz with watercooling (i think).

Well i almost have money ready, so i can now wait and see if they are almost as good as the i7. I'm wondering how much that 3ghz chip is going to cost though, im hoping less than £300.. Seeings as it's their high end chip being released first im not sure if that would even happen.

deneb prices are going to be $300-$400, so your talking of £200-270

and tbh if they were to put the price any higher then they would be shooting themselves in the foot

Correction.... $400 = £400 after u consider the Dollar over the pound, recession, World Economic state and Credit Crunch disaster and then UK Tax

Dont forget the UK hyke for AMD chips, they always more expensive then intel for some reason, compared to states prices.
