Hey, got my new PC, loving it, though my 4870x2 can't run crysis smoothy on all very high, 1680x1050. What i mean by that is, quite frequenty, it feels like im getting 18fps (it feels laggy, but not to the point where its unbareable, just an incrediable annoyance).
My specs; q6600 @ 2.4
4870x2
4gb dominator RAM
1tb hardrive

I hear your meant to overclock your CPU to about 3.0 to get good fps, though I have ran CPU tests and it says all my CPU's are under about 40% load. So the cpu's not the problem. That leaves the graphics card...right? I would update it, CCC, though when i did my graphics card stopped, fullstop! Every game i ran, it just had a blank screen. And when i tried to reinstall it wouldn't let me. So im not gonna update to to the latest CCC.

Any ideas what is making my graphics card not as nice as it should be?

note: crysis is the only game im experiencing this in, though....it is crysis, so maybe this is to be expected

I think it is your CPU, many games do not use all 4 cores but just 1 or perhaps 2 in some cases, therefore the clock speed of those cores is quite important still

The general consensus on this board, and i have tested this myself abit only in a couple of games, is that once you your proccessor is clocked at 3 ghz or more, further increase's result in only very marginal FPS increase's

However increasing your CPU from speeds below 3 ghz to 3 ghz can yield noticable improvements in quite a few games, also very few computers run crisis well at very high setting's i'd drop it down to high and clock your CPU to 3 GHZ if possible those two things combined should see you get a substancially better framerate

Yeah your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU, overclock to 3.2Ghz to increase AVG FPS.

Do the crysis gpu_benchmark test and report back...Im getting around 34fps average on 3 passes (all on very high without AA and 32bit). System in sig.

The load on the cpu wont tell you anything...its the rate at which the data can be transfered that is the limiting factor not how much is being transfered... 2.4GHz will be limiting your graphics card (and so probably is my 3GHz at the moment)

I thought you'd get a little more than that. I get 33fps 1680x1050 Dx10 V.high with a pair of 8800GTS 512's and a Q6600 @3.0

Sounds like a driver issue as even a Quad at 2.4 should perform well

Try uninstalling and using driver cleaner

Running your Quad at stock will kill the min FPS.

Using the inbuilt test in Warhead my mins went up by 10 FPS switching from a Q9450 @ 3.0 to a E8500 @ 3.9 on my GTX 280. Thats at 1920x1200. The overhead of Xfire will make this situation even worse.

From what i have seen around the net i agree totally with the above post. The higher the cpu speed the better the x2 will perform it will still go up at over 4.0ghz on a q9550 in certain games and this can only give you better min frames and a better game play experience.

Performance is definately far to low, although you say you don't want to, you need to install a new driver.

Download the latest
Uninstall including CCC
Run driver cleaner to remove any ATI components
Restart
Install new
