I was really refusing to use ISO1600 as on the screen it looked really really bad but 1250 didn't come out too bad. The light was bloody awful aswell so I did what I could. Was a fantastic learning experience and am hoping to either go to a daytime game or a night match with some good lighting.

Even got myself an assist in this game. I passed the ball to the guy taking a corner and he scored from it ;)

I'm not too sure about the shots, looks like something out of my brother's shots when he shooting his local friend's footie game, the only one that really stood out was number 3, the expression on the scorer's (?) face, whilst number 2 of the opposition can only stare.

And not being picky here but PRT Photography keeps making me see it as PRAT Photography from my peripheral vision. I might just need new glasses though.

I just spat my tea all over my keyboard. Good job. Now you owe me a new one :D

Be glad my 2nd middle name isn't Andrew or Anthony :p

Yeah I realise these are crap. I think my camera could do some ok shots but the lighting was horrible. :(

I know what you mean, in lowlight, it's really really hard to do a shot on a DSLR (I miss my Fuji F30....). Especially with sports event like so, flash is not allowed. Do you have the nifty fifty? I would have gone that way and use f1.8 and did more portrait like shots of players rather than a bigger picture view. Something like number 7 but perhaps tighter as f1.8 have really thin DoF.

I have the standard 50mm which came with my 350D. I think that's F3.5/5.6?

My next lens i'm looking at is the Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 so I could use that in those situations.

The standard you spoke of is the kit zoom lens, so 3.5 to 5.6 sounds about right. The Nifty Fifty is a cheap but really sharp prime lens, useful when it's really low light and your kit lens can't perform unless you have a tripod and still subjects...

id rather have seen this with less blur and darkness and more grain tbh,. the 30D is fine at higher isos, people are obsessed with a tiny bit of noise these days!

I used to use 3200 almost religiously when i shot basketball with my 20/30Ds

That was iso3200 on the 20D, totally usable and of course it's the same sensor etc as the 30D.

Think 3's the best in this set still looks like you had some pretty tough conditions do deal with so well done for trying!

Here's some I shot at Arsenal (not usually allowed but was able to sneak camera in under jacket!!) not great by any means but it was a really overcast day the the light was terrible!

High ISO from mem something like 3200 if memory serves

Either you or your camera have gone WAY overboard with the noise reduction there. Looks like Noise Ninja without any USM applied, just flattens everything killing all detail. Almost looks painted.

Haven't manually done anything with the noise - just adding brightness as the originals were underexposed slightly.
