Self Employed Support job

Well i'm based in maidstone kent which there are a lot of companies here so i think i can make it work.

I have a DVD full of applications to help cleanse pc's and free virus software etc... and i have a laptop with mobile internet on it to use for fact finding once i'm at the client's residency.

Due to where i am based in Kent, i can charge high rates, but i'd rather charge lower rates and get more work to be honest.

I'm guessing, i'd -

Get registered
Make flyers and leaflets
Make a website
Hound the phone book? cold calling?

Andy

Not when it starts removing registry entries lol.

I found a super program to get rid of it, just can't remember the name of it now!

Most around here are £30-£40 call out charge and then £30 an hour but the hour is divided into 15 min segments USUALLY.

Hard to get rid off?

Download malwarebytes, up-date it, run and remove.

Job done!

I do it as a side job and I do quite a few home users and the odd business too. Lets just say it took me a good few years to build trust with clients.

I get regular people coming to me and the odd new person every week so my work is fully scheduled, which is good because I never miss anything. I also work full time too as a technician.

I don't drive as I bus it to the businesses and the home clients bring the work to me.
Plenty money.

How did you first get clients?

Andy

don't see why it would cheer you up though.

Becuase your entire thread history is just amazing. It's an absolute comedy goldmine as you blunder your way from one disaster to another each time failing to recognise the one common thing - everything you think of sucks.

Some people in this world will be rocket scientists, others won't. Not everyone can be a rocket scientist and there will come a time when you just have to admit that you'll need to pick a job you can manage and just stick with it.

You name it, you've tried it and failed from setting up your own business to running an ocuk ripoff hardware forum to driving a car to selling cars to cold calling people.

Just get a nice, simple 9-5 job and chill. You might even save some bandwidth. The questions you always end up asking in these threads make it fairly obvious that you just dont have what it takes to make it in business. This is nothing to be ashamed of because most of us don't have what it takes.

Its like me and football. I tried for ages to play football as a kid but no matter how much I tried, I plain sucked. So after many failed attempts I realised i was crap, would always be crap, and decided to be interested in other things.

Accept it and get on with your life.

Or continue providing us with *** epic lulz. Your choice :)

To be fair to the guy at least he is trying, working in a 9-5 job for someone else is very rarely fruitful or fulfilling.

Aruffell - TBH this IT support thing isnt a great idea really. There is no money in residential support, and business' wont be interested in a one man band unless you get accredited and go through an agency - which will be a full time job.

IM (extensive, for my age) E, the best money to be made privately is by finding a single commodity which you know and understand the market for inside out. Dont sway from it, dont try and be clever, just buy and sell it in bulk and take advantage of people who dont know as much as you about it and want convenience.

What do you sell, Mr. Jez?

set your rates low, be polite, do the job properly (many fail here) and let word of mouth do the rest.

This.

No advertisements, word of mouth, did the job properly, low rates to start with slowy increasing as time went on.

It helps that I work in an area of IT and the people around me come to me for home support after work. Sometimes I acctually make more after work for 2/3 hours than I do for a day working.

How low?

Callout charge? or just per hour or per job?

Andy

As low as you think to start with, minimum wage is what I started with for clients outside of my day to day job. Slowy increased it to double minimum wage then tripple minimum.

Depends what you want to do. Per hour / Per job. I did per hour to start with then I did per job 6 months after. To be honest I get around average 6 jobs a week ontop of my standard wage @ tripple time.

Gives me alittle spending money for food as I live on my own.
