Went to court today for my exhaust being too loud on my car and as soon as i got there, everything was thrown out of court as it was a bogus charge and what basically happened is -

my car was taken by a police officer unlawfully and it cost me £105 to get the car back.

I've been told i can claim this back plus loss of earnings etc...

Who do i claim to?

Thanks,

Andy

I suspect the police..if you got any paperwork from the court it'll probably say, otherwise give the court a ring and talk to the clerk (I think he's the guy) who should be able to point you in the right direction.

You seem to be the luckiest person on these boards.

Why thankyou :) Don't really call it lucky, i knew when the officer took my car that it would be thrown out of court.

Taking someone's car for it "sounding" as if im going too fast is a bogus charge and siezing the car with no paperwork adds to it.

I'll do that :)

Do you honestly make your life decisions (career and day to day) based on the outcomes of these threads?

I imagine you're a real achiever in life.

Point being?

Andy

More to the point, we were all hoping you were still banned.

Seriously, if you were told you are entitled to money back, why would you walk out of the court with no further information and ask on a computer hardware forum?

What constitutes "too loud" for an exhaust? My mate's old Land Rover is the noisiest thing going and yet passes it's MOT everytime.

I seem to find varous figures stated, and different methods of measuring.

96db, 100db, 101db and 76db have all been mentioned.

96db was tested at 45 degree angle from the rear of the car at a set distance with a sound meter. *between 1/2 and 2/3 throttle?

The 76 figure was from some EU thingy where you have to drive through a test area at 50km/h then accelerate at full throttle through that test area, and the distance was further away, and to the side of the car.

So, gawd only knows :p
