Ok, first off i like watches, i choose to spend money on them, anyone who cant understand why anyone would not pay more than £50 for a watch doesnt belong in here :p

Now for the like minded people i would value some suggestions.

I have a budget of €4k euro for a watch for my wedding day and a watch that i will keep for the rest of my life (most of the rest get moved on after 6 months hence this is a big deal). therefore i needs to be timeless etc.

at the moment the fore runner and the current fav of my bride to be is the IWC Portuguese (see here http://www.watchesonnet.com/IW371417.html) but i am open to any other suggestions? I tried the new rolex GMT 2 and didnt feel it looked as well on the wrist as the IWC.

Watch must be obtainable for the budget new or second hand like new.

thanks in advance

I have alsways liked the Zenith chronomaster and class ranges. Not to sure if they will fall into your price ranges. Another watch that i am looking at atm is the Rolex Explorer 2. Thats not in the same style as the IWC though.

thanks for suggestions lads, pictures and approx cost of these suggestions would be appreciated

Personally I think I'll be getting an IWC Classic Pilot Chronograph with my bonus this month, simple and pretty timeless.

Maybe not what you're after if it's one to keep forever but depends on your taste, I prefer the design to the Portuguese and it's more individual than yet another Rolex or Omega I think, worth a glance anyway...

Less than your budget by a fair bit but there's a limited edition with a blue face which some might like which will be a bit more.

what are they new £2k or more? tried one on, on a bracelet, preferred the geezer but they are lovely watches :)

IWC - nice, also Patek etc.

Although I like Maurice Lacroix designs, I would say their movements (not ETA based designs) have not had a chance to prove themselves over an extended period of time.

Here's my Phase de Lune with an ETA base ML37 movement:

You can get them online from £2400 or so, if you have a friendly dealer nearby you can go and bestow your custom on I think you might do a shade better.

The limited edition blue version

I've never seen for less than £3200, it's also a personal taste issue, I wouldn't buy it personally...
