Basically gave the car a service and all is now working fine, but i noticed the wishbones looked a bit shagged, took it to my local indie who said they need replacing as well as a rear coil spring and the exhaust.

For the wishbones and rear coil i have been quoted £250 (parts and fitting), as well as the exhaust needing replacement (£160ish)

The question is should i do this and hope nothing crops up or sell on and buy another to avoid this becoming a money pit?

Just to add yes i know this isn't megabucks, but i dont want to put good money after bad if you know what i mean.

Opinions please,

Andy

Depends on the age of the car, it's general condition and how long you intend to keep it. I'm assuming the price is to replace both springs not just one ?

The next car you buy could need work doing as well. If this car otherwise seems ok and you'd like to keep it then get it repaired. Phone around for quotes.

I'd leave it, get the exhaust done if it needs it but ignore the wishbones unless its actually affecting the car.

I'd rather not.

Basically i will spend £1500-£2000 on another car or spend £400 getting this up to scratch. I just don't want to keep throwing money at it.

None of us can easily say as we don't know what the condition of the rest of the car is like. If it's generaly in pretty good condition then IMO better the devil you know. A £2000 car could easily come with far more expensive faults lurking.

100% agree.

Will give it a think tonight.

What replacements could anyone recommend?

What are MX-5's like?

Got a wishbone for my L reg Mondeo for £24 so may be worth getting the suspension parts yourself from a factors. Took me about an hour to do the job, its not hard and no specialist tools needed.

No, the mondeo was my grandads, he did 2000 miles in 2 years and this is why the exhaust needs replacing, i am dubious about piling the cash in as it was sat on a drive barely ticking over and could have rotted away (i am sure it hasn't) and so to ocuk for their opinions, yours fox has been noted. :)

EDIT: the mx-5 is a car a fancied before i got the car and was asking peoples opinions as they come across as fun and more to the point reliablish motors.

Spend the money, it's not more than the cost of a replacment and when buying a 2k car it could come with allsorts of hidden gremlins that could cost you more than the origional £400.
