FUMING @ Morrisons.... What the hell is this all about?

I thought there was a rule or something that people under the drinking age cannot sell alcohol?

Just in the video game store i work in, staff under 18 can't sell 18 games, they need to get someone else to do it for them. Not the same thing i know, but i thought it was a general rule?

that is true iirc

Anyone offer a sensible explanation as to why you have to look over 25 to buy alcohol?

EDIT: Yes anyone under the age of 18 cannot sell alcohol unless supervised by someone over the age of 18, I remember having to do this when I worked at Sainsburys.

A friend who is over 30 with grey hair has also been asked for ID when purchasing 1 bottle of wine! (but he is black! :p ).

It just seems they are being overly strict. I can understand it is better to be strict than not be but if kids want beer they will get it one way or another.

It is pointless because it assumes that alcohol is the problem. Once over 16 or 18 you should know the score. why increase it to 21 or 25. #It is ageism pure and simple.

Firstly just because you buy alcohol doesn't mean you will get very drunk, secondly when drunk most people don't cause trouble.

So why blame alcohol, people that are ***** are ***** in general. Restricting alcohol isn't the answer.

However it should also not be an excuse and if someone is causing trouble while drunk we should come down on them like a ton of bricks rather than the current slap on the wrist.

you get the occasional hormone freak dont you, everyone went to school with one. their voice breaks age 8, they have a fully grown beard age 12. everyone else is traumatized for life after PE lessons etc.

But why 25? The legal age is 18.

It should be as simple as if you cannot provide ID you don't get sold alcohol why inflate it to 21 then to 25?

Even if you were buying it for your 5 year old, what you do with it once you've bought it is down to you, no?

I can understand they don't want a bunch of chavs following one guy with 10 bottles of cider, but come on.

To make it harder for someone who is under 18 to buy alochol without being asked for identification. If the rule is 18 or even 21 then there's a bigger chance someone slips through. If the police find them on the street with alcohol, they'll get the shop name and ask to see the security recordings and fine/remove their license.

Thats nice, having worked in spar I can tell you that the policy for anything age orientated is 25 now. We know you look older than 21, but we have to ID under 25 or lose our jobs. The company sends in people over 20 to buy produce and if they are not ID'd (they do this more and more now) then they will recieve a written warning lasting 6 months. Two warnings = sack. I had one warning for not id'ing someone that looked 22 to me, after I had just ID'd someone else.

There are notices all over the shop explaining the age is 25. I fail to see how you did not notice them and shouting at the cashier to make yourself feel better is pathetic. If you do not agree with the policy write to the shop's manageress or the head office.

If the staff know you then you're unlikely to be ID'd but if you a stranger to them they automatically have to assume it's a test purchase.

i dont think the issue was himself getting ID'd, its the fact he was refused due to the 5 year old not having ID?

bit stupid asking a little kid ID when blatently he is underage lol.

Why don't we just move to a countrywide system where you have to provide ID to buy alcohol. No ID no sale. Which if I am correct is like the US.

EDIT: The stupid issue here is the fact they refused to sell this guy alcohol because he was with a 5 year old.

God yeah I remember one lad in my form when I was at secondary school looked 25 at 15!!....was big lad also in all departments...everyone used to vacate the showers when he walked in lol.

he forget his wallet like?:p

I could just picture some total plank doing that.

"Excuse me sir, but I need to see some I.D.

Do you have a Credit Card or Driving Lisence at all?"

All 5 year olds should carry such things :D

Does your credit card have a photograph on it?
Unless you lie, you have to be 18 to get a credit card. If you do lie however there's a fair chance the creditor will catch wind of it and terminate your card.

Just another excuse of how the moronic "PC/Health and Saftey/Idiot Brigade" are slowly ruining this country and turning it into a big brother state.

I'm sorry but surely common sense prevails? Fair enough the young girl doing her job, probably had to ask for assistance being underage and selling booze. (Supermarkets are allowed to do this, but the till supervisor has to be present and give it the "ok")

The manager though.... Sainsbury policy is surely not to annoy the customer so much with some ridiculous rule that you a) Alienate a future customer, b) Lose £150 of sales.

How ridiculous....reminds me of the time I got I.D'd for Cigs at a petrol station after filling up my car and paying for the petrol with my credit card.....(I was 20 and the law was 16 to buy then). I just laughed at the guy and schooled him hard.
