i am thinking about upgrading my memory from 4 1gb modules to 2 2gb modules. i dont know much about what is good, bad, right or wrong! i know that the 32bit vista home premium that i use does not feel the full benefit from the 4gb currentlt installed (windows rating gives memory 5.0). i want to keep 4gb on my system however, will i see a performance boost changing the 4x1gb generic memory sticks that the manufacturer (mesh) installed? i have checked my mobo, it is an asus p5ne-sli with a quad core Q6600 running at 2.40 ghz. when i have checked memory type for the board it is DDR2 6400, i have seen that overclockers have 2x2gb gold memory modules on offer this week but they are described as pc2-6400c5, are these compatible?
and before anyone says it, no i dont want to upgrade to vista 64, am happy with 32bit system, and not fussed on overclocking it. thanks for any advice!

Another one of these threads!

4 * 1GB puts more starin oj the NB (not that much)

Yea they are compatible, but be careful, check the Asus QVL list for the nVidia chipset as OCZ arent officially supported.

Though check my sig, my ram is OCZ and its fine on my Asus mobo

32 bit doesnt regonise 4gig so its useless really having a full 4 gig.

Im no expert, but for a start, I think your 32 Bit OS wont make use of all 4GB.

No point, you won't see any noticeable performance increase. You have already mentioned that you won't be clocking it or using a 64 bit OS so save your money.

Anyway whats wrong with 64bit ???

Im running 64 bit with the exact memory you are talking about.

If I clock me 6600 to 3.0 i get 5.9 in vista x64 and if i leave it at stock i get 5.6.

So go 64, mines working like a charm :)

Its completely pointless to 'upgrade' to 2x2gb from 4x1gb.

If however you were going to get 8500 over your old 6400 then I could understand. But even then you'd not notice a performance increase.

Also, for the love of everything that is worthwhile, don't use that Vista performance thing as an indicator of your computer's actual performance- it is rubbish.
