Speed drops on UKFSN

I am on a UKFSN (Entanet) Business Allowance 8MB package. All has been very good up until last weekend and now I am experiencing an annoying problem.

Typically download speed is around the 800KB/s mark which I have no complaints with. Over the weekend the speed dropped to around 200KB/s, at the time I put it down to it just being busy. This speed was pretty constant and limited to no more than about 220KB/s, on Monday as I had to work from home I reset my router PC (Clarkconnect 4.2, ADSL modem via PPPoE) as a last resort before contacting UKFSN. After this the connection returned to 800KB/s.

The same thing has happened yesterday, restarted this morning and everything is good.

What I want to know is does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause of this? What can I do to avoid it, is the issue my end of Enta's?

Thanks for any ideas

Is the speed drop occuring at the same rough time of day each time?

If so it's probably the ISP throttling traffic at peak times, I.E when everyone is home downloading etc and bandwidth is at a premium.

Thanks, I didn't realise UKFSN throttled, just checked their website and it appears they do. Never experienced it so obviously before.

The main issue I have is that after throttling the speed does not recover on my system. I guess restarting my connection results in another Central but surely if the Central I am connected to recovers then so should the speed I get?

That does sound strange, Next time it does it check the sync rate on the modem to see if it changes. If they're throttling it shouldn't change, if it does there may be more at work here.

In the same boat , enta speeds have been poop lately

Its not the ALT system kicking in its something else , Iam finding I have to resend a lot of url requests before I get a response back.

Doesnt matter what time of day , enta are being tight lipped about it ( which is very strange as they are pretty open about most things ) <- Does not bode well

I sync at 8.1 , but getting 100kB - 200kB speeds currently

I didn't realise ukfsn were throttling? I've been hammering (downloading and uploading) my home30/300 package lately, day and night, but never going anywhere near my allotted allowance :)

I've also been re-syncing a lot - could this be ukfsn controlling my speeds? I'd put it down to the changes in my environmental variables :o

SW.

ukfsn are really bad now, emailed them with a problem very similar over 1 days ago - still yet to hear.

tbh think i may swap to adsl24 just for the extra support!

edit: just requested mac code to swap, its a joke.

Do people actually watch i_player and enjoy it?I mean i just tried the Top Gear program on high quality(line was fast enough,no judder etc)
even on my pc monitor it was a carp quality, blurred. What would it look like on a tv size screen? even a 32" screen would look rubbish let alone a 42" or even a 50"
I am surprised that this seems so popular:confused:

Downloading the program onto your computer using BBC iplayer is a lot better sometimes I watch them on my 42" TV with no problems.

Well preprare for the collapse of the UK's internet from Thursday once they start streaming live Tv, jesus, thats gona be 24/7 - 365 that, it couldn't even cope with 2 weeks of tennis for a few hrs a day before, so god knows how they gona manage live Tv all day every day, ITS DOOMED. :D :D

Enta's pipes are collapsed now lol, 1's heading down, 2 is down to 1.5mb and still dropping, 3 is 4.5 and dropping, 4 is now 2.3 and red, and its only 10 to 4 in the afternoon, live Tv streaming aint starting till Thursday!!!. :D

It's not a question of abandoning ship it's pure stupidy on BBC's side of thing's! Do they know how many complaints they will recieve from consumers and ISP's.

Today's the first time in 2 years that I've noticed UKFSN dropping below 7.2mb during peak times.

And there does seem to be something odd happening today -

Central 1 = Amber
Expected performance 3Mbps

Central 2 = Amber
Expected performance 1.2Mbps

Central 3 = Red
Expected performance 1.8Mbps

Central 4 = Amber
Expected performance 1.1Mbps

Central 5 = Green
Expected performance 7.2Mbps

Central 6 = Green
Expected performance 7.2Mbps
