Epping up the m25, or Danbury t'other side of Chelmo. Danbury has a nice one, Riffhams Forest. It's "closed" to the public since it's owned by the Essex Scouting Group. We do shizzle there all the time, they're fine with it as long as we dont start fires or cut down trees.

Warning - I live near there

North Essex is the best part really. Thaxted, Great Dunmow etc.. There some lovely hidden villages that are time warp places.

If you're after a hidden village that is really lovely look up Fintchingfield (nr Dunmow) Really nice little place complete with tea room on the green.

I'd say that Basildon is worse than Brentwood, but I suppose thats a bit like saying Hitler is worse than Harold Shipman just because he killed more people.
