As the name suggests, which graphics card is the best on the market today?
Im leaning towards the 4870x2 because it always seems to come out on top :D

Depends what you mean by "best".

If you mean best performance, then the 4870x2 is currently on top.

If you mean best bang for buck, then I'd guess the 4870 or GTX260-216.

GTX 260 i reckon, seen one in action and seems a great piece of kit, i have not seen the 4870 in action personally so cant really comment but from what i have read both cards seem top of the list for value for money, depends on what you have at the moment, if lower than an 8 series i would look into a second hand 8800gt as these seem great cards when overclocked and are dirt cheap second hand, my brothers one spanks my 8800gtx when he overclocks it.

Tri SLI does not seem to offer much over dual 280 GTX's in SLI in an awful lot of games, in fact it's slower in quite a few titles as it's the CPU that's a bottleneck when you have such massive GPU power, for the extra cost over SLI i'd say TRI is currently a big waste of cash, maybe a overlocked I7 proccessor might change all that though

Basically the GTX260-Core216 is probably the best buy right now. Performance is close to the £300 GTX280 and they're only about £230.

Those who have 4870, is it worth buying?

I have no complaints here, though from postings in this forum alone, models with poor cooling solutions can be troublesome. I took this on board and settled for this version (it has 1Gb mem, spec is listed incorrectly) recommended by reviews elsewhere for the quality cooler and dual fan assy. Because the fans are quality, they can be set at 55% during gaming which keeps it quieter than a single 80mm fan and yields temps lower than 65°. It`s the same as the Palit version and the Gainward variant looks suspiciously similar. Heat is indeed vented out the back but because the cooler pipes are exposed, they do heat the surrounding area so good case ventilation is a must ;)

Bang for buck though? HD4850, no arguments. Half the price of a GTX260 but not half the performance (and then some) and a cracking overclocker. One member here has a +20% overclock on the core and a +10% overclock on the memory which is phenomenal :)
