How to put weight on?

People say they eat above average, but chances are they are eating hollow crappy food with no real decent calories.

I eat lots of junk and im skinny. I can put away a lot of food, but I know myself that I dont eat often enough and substantially enough to gain good poundage :)

Drink lots of Cider and eat chips!!!!

Or if you want 'good' weight, do 100 pressups and situps every evening (cheaper than the gym), and walk to work.

That sort of exercise does very little to build mass, you need to be doing good free weight exercises if you want to build any sort of large amounts of muscle

Gaining weight isn't too hard, at the most basic level you need to eat more calories than you burn off during the day.

If you think you eat a lot actually write it down with rough portion sizes and look at the nutritional values, I can almost guarantee you're not eating as much as you think you are. A very rough guide is that somewhere between 2000 and 2400 calories is fairly average for an ordinary man of ~200lbs/14 stones without much in the way of activity.

Protein will be critical especially for someone who is ectomorphic which it sounds like you may well be. Eat plenty of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat and loads of carbs too. You're pretty much the opposite of me. I eat very healthily, its my job after all, but my metabolism is very unforgiving. Blood type nutrition is my current interest. What is poison to one man may well be an elixir to another, e.g. type O (like me) broadly speaking do well on high protein and not too high carb food intakes. In your case I don't suggest you do 'too' much cardiovascular aerobic exercise. You won't put any on if you do.

Forget about whey protein - eat more and lift some weights. If, after a year you need it, then look at supplementation.

drink a lot of beer and eat a big pizza before you go to sleep ever night, i put 3 stone on in a year, in first year of uni!
