How to put weight on?

Im 19! n skinny, getting skinnier! which is scary as i always take it about 1600 aday!

Like I say, 1688 is based on no exercise. Doing anything other than sitting on your arse will use more energy so it's safe to assume you would lose weight if you ate 1600 a day.

Although saying that, I should be using about 1950 according to my BMR without exercise. I eat about 1750 a day atm and my job involves loads of lifting yet I still can't get down past 81kg.

Caused me to put on loads of weight :( Just wish the damn things werent so yummy! I eat a pack at a time now :(

Go to the gym and get a regular work out and it will help develope your muscles, surely developing muscles is better than fat.

Whey protein is there to supplement a diet, however it is not necessary, but a good alternative if you haven't got the chance to get a high protein diet. It shouldn't replace good quality food and a good quality diet, thought protein is very important and are the building blocks for muscles. But you need to stimulate your body to develop muscle. This requires HARD WORK.

If you want to pack on size, firstly we need to establish your age, secondly, you need to increase your calorie intake, bear in mind a lot of people think they "eat a lot" but they seldom do. It's actually hard work eating over 3k calories a day - trust me I would know! Then whilst sorting your diet out, you need to get active, get a good gym routine sorted (go to the SA to ask for help, or firstly, read GordyR's sticky in SA on bodybuilding).

It won't happen over night, people like myself spend months to put on good quality lean mass. It can sometimes take months to increase our lean body mass by a few pounds. It's easy to get fat, it's not as easy to develop muscle and stay trim.
 
Freefaller I'm assuming that you're gay and will continue to do so until you back up your 'suggestions.'

My mate Dave says that all you need to do gain weight is to do functional exercises like sit-ups and curls and 3 meals that have 10 mouthfuls in them, and drink 2-3 tablespoons of creatine a day.

He says I could gain anywhere between 30-40kgs (I'm 5'9 and 67kg) in about a year but my metabolism is super fast and I already eat over 3 packets of crisps in a single day so I doubt it's going to happen.

How does that square with your rubbish about calories?

'Dave' is on to something. Although I think you may want to up it to 4 packets of crisps a day to really start getting BIG :D

I hate it when people think whey protein is a magic potion for gaining weight, as a lot of people have said, you do need to eat a lot more on top of your current diet and go the gym on a regular basis.

Am in the same boat really,however been going the gym pretty much consistently for over 2 years, my strength has increased a lot, however have only gained roughly a stone in that time, just cannot keep a strict diet in place to progress any further, hit my plateau until i can drastically change my diet, which is quite costly and time consuming.
